6th Ward Constituent Requests & Updates

May Hall Highlights

We're excited to share some 6th Ward updates from May, highlighting our community's incredible achievements!

In May, we answered 423 calls to our office, providing essential resources, offering a helping hand, and connecting residents with necessary departments. We also installed 12 Residential Disabled Parking Signs in May, improving accessibility in our neighborhood. Thank you for embodying the true spirit of community!

In addition to fulfilling constituent requests, we are thrilled to announce a $32 million grant for affordable housing for seniors on the vacant land at 8340 S. King Drive. This site will soon be home to Park Manor Senior Residences. Construction is set to begin in early 2025, with the first residents moving in by 2026. This exciting project will bring jobs for residents and provide homes for seniors in the 6th Ward.

Thank you to the residents who joined us at the City-wide Clean & Green event with Mayor Brandon Johnson. What an amazing turnout it was! Your enthusiasm and dedication to keeping our community clean and vibrant is truly inspiring.

Together, we collected an impressive amount of litter, beautified our public spaces, and demonstrated the power of community action. Events like these showcase our collective commitment to making our neighborhoods a better place to live.

Stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved and make a difference. Let's keep up the great work, and here's to a fantastic summer ahead!

Over the past several months, our office has assisted over 30 veterans with resources, including access to healthcare, employment, disability, and financial assistance. We thank the Department of Veterans Affairs for providing these services to our community and for supporting those who served our country.

At last month's Hope & Career Fair, students from Chicago State University, Englewood STEM High School, and Menta Academy Chicago-South all attended in impressive numbers. It was inspiring to see so many young people eager to explore career opportunities and connect with potential employers just in time for summer break.

We look forward to continuing this momentum and supporting our community’s professional development. Stay tuned for the next Hope & Career Fair on June 20th at Hamilton Park!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered at the 6th Ward Community Green & Clean event in preparation for the Montford Point Marine Monument Rededication last month.

Together, we beautified the area with flowers and cleared away debris, demonstrating our pride and respect for this historic event.

It was an honor to host the rededication and flag-raising ceremony at the Montford Point Marines monument site last month.

A special shout-out to the two living heroes, Mr. John Vanoy and Mr. Hubert Burks, both WWII veterans, whom we had the privilege of honoring during the ceremony.

Thank you to our partners and speakers for making this event a success. Special thanks to Leo Florist for providing the wreath for the wreath-laying ceremony, Sergeant First Class Kevin Dunn, the Englewood STEM JROTC for raising the flags, Julian Calderon for donating his Marine flag, and Chi-Cares for providing lunch.

As we move into June, please remember to submit service requests for any issues or concerns.

Together, we can accomplish even more and make a lasting difference in our community.

Wishing you a wonderful June ahead!
