6th Ward Event Highlights
On August 4th, we hosted our 2nd annual Back to School Family Fest, attracting over 150 residents. Families enjoyed free book bags for the new school year, fresh produce, and various community activities, including special appearances by Elmo and Friends and exciting bounce houses. The event also featured numerous vendors showcasing their businesses. Thank you to everyone who attended. We’re already looking forward to next year’s celebration.
Twice a month, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers assistance with healthcare, enrollment, disability and compensation, employment, and financial support to those who served our country. If you or someone you know is a veteran, we encourage you to attend our Veteran Heroes Thursdays. The next dates are September 12th & 26th from 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm, at Martin Temple AME Zion on 69th and Cottage Grove.
Over 50 veterans have already received the resources they need. Don’t miss out on this valuable opportunity.

Every month, the 6th Ward Farmers Market keeps getting bigger. With over 40 attendees, the market on August 17th was a success despite the rain. From fresh produce to harvested honey, the Farmers Market is a one-stop shop for residents to mix, mingle, and support our local businesses. The final market of the year is on September 21st from 9 am - 12 noon on 85th and Calumet, so if you haven’t attended yet, I encourage you to join us. Don’t miss out on this vibrant community experience. If you're interested in being a vendor at the upcoming market, reach out to Karen at 312-375-0442. It's free!
On August 15th, over 25 residents of the 6th Ward attended the Hope & Career Fair, eager to discover their next career goals. With over 20 vendors in one setting, the fair made it easier for attendees to take steps toward achieving their aspirations. Join us at the upcoming Career Fair on September 19 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm at Tuley Park.
Last month's music series was a hit! Saxophonist Marqueal Jordan took the stage and did not disappoint. A little over 200 attendees gathered in the park for a peaceful night of jazz. Special thanks to our vendors for keeping the crowd well-fed throughout the evening. Join us for the final session in the music series on September 9th, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm in Cole Park.
I also hope all students, teachers, and staff had a great first week of school. I was happy to attend Tie-Tuesdays at Dixon Elementary School. An initiative to unify and elevate young men created by Tie Tuesday Foundation. Here in the 6th Ward, we have some of the leading academic performing schools in the city of Chicago.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our community. Together, we are making the 6th Ward a better place for everyone.
Yours in Service and Community,
Alderman William E. Hall
