Final release of seal season!
Our final seal release of the 2022-2023 season was a BIG one with the return of Harbor seal #23-089 (Barnegat Light) back to the wild! This adult female Harbor seal spent over six weeks recovering from an injury in MMSC's rehabilitation hospital.

Safe travels, big girl!

We are also still getting reports of Harbor seals being sighted in the area, so please remember to call our hotline (609) 266-0538 if you spot one. There's plenty of prey out there for them to eat, so it is not unusual for some of the Harbor seals to remain in the area throughout the summer.

Thank you!

This week, one of our stranding trucks is in the shop for repairs to fix the ABS control module (and possibly new brake lines as well). We are looking at an estimated $2,400 in repairs. This 2014 Ford F150 is the workhorse of our fleet, responding to most of the 107 calls for animals in distress received so far this year. Since January 1st, close to 5,000 miles have been put on this truck on beaches throughout the entire state of New Jersey.

Please consider making a small donation towards the repairs of this critical vehicle as the marine mammals and sea turtles of New Jersey are counting on it to be there for them.

We greatly appreciate your help!

Join MMSC's Educators for a guided beach walk and hands-on activities!

Nature is our classroom as your group learns about the animals and plants that are native to our New Jersey beaches, bays and estuaries.

Your family will meet MMSC's Educators on one of the most beautiful and diverse natural habitats on Brigantine Island.

During this 45-minute interactive program, we will guide you on a short walk along the dunes as you learn about the dune ecosystem and the birds, mammals and plants that call it home.

Once you arrive at our outdoor mobile classroom, you'll get your feet wet as we teach you how to identify local invertebrates, fish, reptiles, and other marine life. You will learn about the biggest threats these creatures face and how YOU can help them.

Our Educators will teach you how to assist stranded Diamondback terrapins and Horseshoe crabs, two abundant local species that frequently need a helping hand.

Finally, learn more about MMSC's mission, and what to do if you spot a stranded marine mammal or sea turtle.
