Electronic Waste Recycling & Brush Drop Off | July 18

The McHenry Township Road District is again partnering with the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County to offer recycling programs for McHenry Township residents. Your next opportunity to recycle is Saturday July 18, 2026 from 8:00a.m. to 12:00 p.m. There will be NO drop off of recycling items during the week. Johnsburg Police Officers and Lions Club members take local children in need shopping for winter clothing and presents for their families.

K9s for Veterans

Half of the fundraiser proceeds will support K9s for Veterans, which pairs rescue dogs with veterans coping with PTSD and provides lifelong food and basic medical care for the service dogs.

Message from Village Staff

NHV Approved & Prohibited Routes

While the Village of Johnsburg recognizes the convenience and enjoyment of operating Non-Highway Vehicles (NHVs) within the Village's corporate limits, we want to remind all operators that NHV operation on public roadways is a privilege, not a right.

Pursuant to Chapter 15.15 of the Village Code, Non-Highway Vehicles may operate only on:

• Village streets with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less
• Any additional routes specifically designated by the Village (Permitted Routes)

NHV operation is prohibited on the following roadways:

• Johnsburg Road, Ringwood Road, Riverside Drive and any roadway under the jurisdiction of the McHenry County Division of Transportation (MCDOT), including, but not limited to, Chapel Hill Road, Spring Grove Road, Bay Road, and other county highways; and Illinois State highways, including Illinois Route 31 (Richmond Road).

Note:

NHV operators are required to obey all applicable traffic laws and the Illinois Rules of the Road. As the operator of a slower-moving vehicle, you are responsible for yielding the right-of-way to conventional motor vehicle traffic whenever required by law.

Address Numbers Must Be Clearly Visible

Property owners and occupants are responsible for displaying the building’s address number in a location that is clearly visible from the street.

Clearly displayed address numbers help emergency responders and other service providers quickly locate your home or business.

Address numbers must:

• Use standard Arabic numerals; script-style numbers are not permitted
• Be at least 2.5” tall for mailbox or recommending 6” for house (4” minimum per IRC)
• Use a color that contrasts with the background for easy visibility
