Record largest Art Show at Nub's Nob on July 10

A record number of artists have registered for the July 10th Art Show at Nub’s Nob Resort, but there are still about 10 booth spaces available in this year’s expanded show. The Art Show is organized by the Harbor Springs Area Chamber and the Northern Michigan Women's Club.

Here is the updated Booth Map and Pricing, and here is the Artist Contract/Application for artists who would like to participate.

The chamber and the Women’s Club teamed up to restart the Art Show in 2023, after a three-year pandemic hiatus. Last year’s show was a major success, attracting 84 artists and hundreds of art lovers. More than 100 artists are expected this year. The organizers have announced that Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club has come aboard as the Premier Sponsor for the event.

The Art show runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 10th. Admission is a suggested donation of $5. Proceeds from the Art Show benefit the Harbor Springs Chamber and the many charitable organizations supported by the Northern Michigan Women's Club. Anyone with questions may contact Bonnie at the chamber, 231-526-7999, or email director@harborspringschamber.com.

If you love our fireworks, please consider a donation to the Chamber Foundation

Coming soon - fireworks over the harbor! July 4th in Harbor Springs ends with a spectacular show of fireworks shot from a barge in the harbor. Do you know that the fireworks display is paid for by donations from the community? Yes, each year the Harbor Springs Chamber Foundation, the nonprofit organization that hosts the fireworks, Street Musique, and the Car Festival, raises the funds for this annual display.

The budget this year for the July 4th fireworks is $56,000. Yes, that is a lot! The Chamber Foundation is very grateful for the many people who generously donate funds to make the fireworks display happen.

If you love the July 4th fireworks show, please consider a donation to the Harbor Springs Chamber Foundation. Contributions can be made mailed to 118 E Main St, Harbor Springs, MI 49740 or you can donate online.

Barbara Boz celebrates new location

The chamber helped Barbara Boz Boutique celebrate their new location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday. From left are Chamber Executive Director Bonnie Kulp, Barbara Boz, DDA Chair Gail Brown, and Barbara’s sales associate Claire.

“I love my new location at 175 E Main Street,” Barbara said. “It’s precious and charming with a beautiful historic façade. I painted the lower half a deep charcoal, which really sets it apart. I loved my previous location too, but the building sold suddenly so the decision to move was made for me. I have fully embraced this location and I am thrilled to call it home!”

Committee to Elect Matt Leirstein Emmet County Sheriff ribbon cutting

The chamber welcomed new member The Committee To Elect Matthew Leirstein Emmet County Sheriff with a ribbon cutting at Johan’s Pastries on Friday. Attending with chamber officials and ambassadors were Matt Leirstein, Sheriff’s Sgt. Sam Hunt and Sgt. Rich Bankey.

Calling future leaders: Leadership application deadline nears

The application deadline is nearing for the next class of Leadership Little Traverse. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Monday, July 15th. Applications are available online

Leadership Little Traverse is a community leadership program hosted by the Petoskey Regional and Harbor Springs Area Chambers of Commerce. The class of 2025 will be the 24th class to go through the program. Sessions begin in September of 2024 and will be held monthly through May 2025. Each session is a full day in length and introduces class members to different facets of the community while helping them hone personal leadership skills.

This is an incredible opportunity to:

  1. Learn about the state of our community, its systems, and current issues.
  2. Develop your civic leadership skills and capacity to make an impact.
  3. Find your path and commit to doing 'community better' in the Little Traverse Bay Region.

In addition to the classroom experiences, the participants will undertake a class-wide community service project and a personal leadership project. Each participant will develop a mentor relationship with a community leader.

The leadership program cost is $900 per person. A limited number of scholarships will be available for those who need financial assistance. Class size is limited, and members of the class are selected based on the strength of their application.

We offer both an online application, as well as a printed version. You can learn more about the program and access the applications here. The application will take time and thought to complete properly. More applications will be received than the 16 available slots, so applicants are encouraged to spend time and put some good thought into their answers. If you have any questions contact Bonnie Kulp at 231-526-7999 or director@harborspringschamber.com.

Happy Fourth of July! This holiday week has the potential of being a record-setting week at the market, if only the weather would cooperate. That does not seem to be the case for us this summer though.

The Harbor Springs Farmers Market is rain or shine, so come support local and pick up your market goodies no matter the weather. Courtesy umbrellas are available while you shop and we also have curbside pickup service available. To place a curbside order, complete the simple curbside pickup order form on our website. This service is perfect if you’d like to stay dry, or even if you’d like to beat the crowds or avoid finding parking.

Last Saturday was our first Kids Day of the season. Although it rained most of the day, we were so happy with the turnout and still had lots of fun activities for kids. 94 scavenger hunts were completed, and more than 80 kids did the Taste Test where they got to try snap peas, cucumbers, cheese, hummus, radishes, and cherries. Kari Roder’s face painting booth was very popular, and Wild Child Botanicals did Henna temporary tattoos. We are hoping for sunny skies for Kids Days on July 20 and August 10, so we can do our painting crafts and the Northern Michigan Bounce House can be set up.

The weather shortened our strawberry season this year, but cherries are now the star of the fruit show, and raspberries are just getting started. This week, sugar snap peas, cucumbers, early potatoes, carrots, radishes, broccoli and more fresh vegetables will be available. You can also pick up all your cookout foods including hot dogs, brats, dips, and more.

Our featured product this week is Duerksen’s smoked turkey legs, which are a delicious and protein-packed meal. The Market Grill, which is famous for their freshly made tacos, has added some new products this summer. Owner Teddy Tamm has partnered with Leelanau Coffee and now offers hot self-serve coffee. Skip the taco line and grab a cup of coffee with all the fixins’ including sugar substitutes and dairy-free milk. Teddy has also started making delicious take-home meals. He shared one with our market crew last weekend and we couldn't get enough of the kale, quinoa and chicken bowl, it was delicious!

Our Guests of the Market this Wednesday are Nourished and Blessed granola, Little Traverse Tileworks, the Harbor Springs Audio Visual Program, and Busman Family Farm with lamb.

Who are the youngest and oldest Harbor Springs Farmers Market vendors? Three-week-old Stella Cupp with her parents, Ben and Callie of Guntzviller's Berry and Vegetable Farm  and Dick Gregory of Gregory's Farm.

Lianna Cupp, age 4, managed the kids token table at Guntzviller’s Farm after getting her face painted.

Sisters Inga, Greta, and Olga Nelson enjoying Kids Day activities. Their grandma asked if they wanted to go the market, or the movies… they chose the farmers market!

On Saturday Mesner Enterprises Tree Service will be joining us, as well as the Harbor Springs Historical Society, Harbor Girl succulents and Great Lakes Olfactory.

Wednesday’s Young Entrepreneurs are the Byma siblings with fire starters, Colin’s Cookies with homemade lavender shortbread cookies, and the Plackemeier siblings with bracelets and the very popular recycled golf balls. On Saturday Lois attends with handmade crocheted stuffed animals, Evie & Otto Moore with tie-dye shirts, and the Wayman siblings with fresh lemonade.

Music at the Market this Wednesday (July 3rd) will be provided by the Melissa and Jake and on Saturday Rivertown Jazz Band will be playing for us. We are keeping our fingers crossed that music doesn’t get rained out!

Check out our newly designed website, www.harborspringsfarmersmarket.org. You can find lots of information about the market including applications for our various programs, the music schedule, vendors list, and you can even sign up to get market updates. As a subscriber you can choose to be updated on weather cancellations, in season products, volunteer opportunities, and special events.

> The Harbor Springs Farmers Market is located right downtown on Main Street Saturdays through October 12, and Wednesdays through August 28, from 9am to 1pm. Meet you at the Market!
