Smart Moves for Exercising Safely in the Summer Stay cool, active, and injury-free with these tips to keep you moving safely all summer long. Time it right: Schedule outdoor workouts in the early mornings and evenings when it’s cooler. Dress smart: Opt for lightweight, breathable clothing that wicks away sweat and helps keep you cool. Protect your skin: Apply a sweat-resistant sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, wear a wide-brimmed hat, and use sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workout to keep your body hydrated, which can help you recover from workouts quicker. Find shade or cool spaces: Plan workouts and routes in shaded areas or near bodies of water for a cool breeze. Modify your workouts: Consider low-impact activities, like swimming or yoga, or work out indoors. Know the signs of heat-related illnesses: Dizziness, nausea, confusion, and excessive fatigue are symptoms of heat stroke and exhaustion and should be treated immediately by a medical professional.
