7 Steps to Promote Your House Call Practice through the Media

One way to drive your home-based primary care practice’s growth is to promote it through the media. But for house call practices that don’t have a dedicated marketing or public relations person or team, this can be a challenge.

“One of the things that tends to get bumped down on a practice’s ‘To Do’ list is promoting themselves through marketing and with the media,” said James Warda, Vice President of External Affairs and Business Development at the Home Centered Care Institute (HCCI). They're obviously focused on important things like providing patient care and remaining sustainable. That’s why we emphasize that there can be great ROI in these activities.”

To illustrate the power of doing so, he references the recent Chicago Sun-Times article about two of the Champions in HCCI’s Illinois House Call Project.

Warda, who oversees marketing and media relations for HCCI and also has written for the Chicago Tribune and Pioneer Press, will tackle this subject in his presentation, Driving Practice Growth through Marketing and Media Relations, at the American Academy of Home Care Medicine’s 2022 Annual Meeting in Orlando on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 9:10am ET, and also at a complimentary HCCIntelligence™ webinar on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 4pm CT (see below).

Essential Elements of HBPC™ Workshop – Faculty Spotlight

Ina Li, MD

Director of Advanced Primary and Continuing Care, ChristianaCare®

How did you get involved with house calls?

After my residency training, I completed a geriatric and clinical-research fellowship which sparked an interest in home-based care. Then in 2006, I joined ChristianaCare to head up their geriatrics practice and home care program. At the time, there was one other provider doing house calls. Now we have 13 providers serving 900+ medically complex homebound patients.

HCCI Hosts Custom Workshop for NPHI Members

In collaboration with the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI), HCCI recently hosted an exclusive two-day virtual workshop for learners representing NPHI member practices from across the country. This unique partnership aims to help NPHI members create sustainable, innovative house call programs that enhance the patient experience, improve health outcomes, and reduce costs.

“As hospice, palliative, and advanced illness care providers, NPHI members are experts at providing care in the home,” said Sarah Sharp, Manager, Center for Education and Vendor Relations at NPHI. “We are excited to continue our work with the specialists at HCCI to bring NPHI members the opportunity to learn about home-based primary care delivery. Whether beginning a practice or expanding current offerings, HCCI’s Workshops provide a collaborative, engaging learning environment from which attendees take away actionable steps and tools.”

HCCI works with practices, health systems, and professional organizations across the country to transform healthcare for homebound patients and enhance both the efficiency and sustainability of the house call programs serving them. HCCI can customize training solutions and resources for a wide range of home-based medical care professionals, as demonstrated in this collaboration with NPHI.
