In the room there were Dames and Baronesses, African royalty and countless sponsors, entrepreneurs, Olympic gold medallists and celebrity guests. Comedienne Mel Giedroyc was the MC and among others presenting the awards were Teresa May, Mylene Klaas, Sally Phillips, Lorraine Kelly, Celia Imrie and many more.
The Woman of Courage Award went to Yulia Navalnaya for her tireless campaigning following on from the murder of her husband Alexei Navalny, an opposition leader and anti-corruption activist murdered by Putin in an Siberian jail. Her speech was sad, deeply affecting and emotional.
Awards went to scientists and charity innovators and women creating real change in the world and their communities. Women such as Morag Lightning BEM, Deepali Nangia, Tinuke Awe and Clotide Abe, Beren Kayali, Tanya Ednan-Laperouse OBE and Natalie Frankland.
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to the ground-breaking artist Tracey Emin.
It was an honour and a privilege to be among the 70 championed women in that room. But what struck me was each winner when presented with the award spoke about the support they had received along the way by family friends, community and early-believers.
That’s the thing. We are not supposed to do this amazing journey called life alone and without support.
The message was clear: behind every success is a network of support.
That’s whether writing a book, starting a business, getting your life on track and focused, getting healthier or starting a new chapter in life after divorce, redundancy, retirement or illness
This message resonates deeply with me as a coach. You don’t have to go it alone.
Support, mentorship, and motivation are crucial to our careers, and essential components of life success. As we navigate our journeys, the value of having someone to guide, inspire, and push us over the finish line cannot be overstated.
