GMHS Family Update - August 14, 2020
Dear GMHS Students and Families,

We apologize for all the emails, we just want to keep you in the loop as we continue planning to start the school year. Here are the latest updates.
  • Thank you to the students and families who were able to join us this week for our virtual meeting regarding health and safety plans. Recordings of these meetings are available on GMHSRams.org.
  • The PTA is working on a fundraiser for the school to assist in obtaining voice amplifiers and plexiglass for classrooms and the school. More information coming soon.

  • We are working on student schedules. Our current goal is to release schedules on Friday, August 21st. If we can finish them sooner we will. We are working through staffing and determining classes we can offer first semester.

  • Teachers and staff have been returning to the school to begin organizing classrooms. Our construction project is in full dash mode as they are trying to finish enough so we can start moving back into the building on August 18th. Once the contractors finish in their areas (which is practically the whole school), our custodians need to clean the entire building so we can start preparing the building for the health and safety signage, temperature stations, etc.

  • Teachers started engaging in full day District led virtual professional development today and will continue this learning through August 19th.

  • We hired a Financial Secretary this week to replace Karen Garrett who retired after many years at GMHS. Welcome to Vicki Winchester who started this week. Vicki is new to the position and will be on a steep learning curve.
  • Student fees will not be released to families until the third or fourth week of school as we expect shifts in student schedules the first few weeks of school.
  • We will be offering breakfast and lunch starting Monday, August 24th between 11:00-1:00 p.m. More information coming soon.

  • We still need information from about 300 families who have not completed the Family Survey. If you have not completed the Family Survey, please do so asap. Thank you.

  • We are planning for Staff Health and Safety Orientation the week of August 31. This training will prepare staff in the protocols, routines, and expectations when we are in the Hybrid schedule and for the Grades 9-12 Health and Safety Orientation.

  • We are planning for Grades 9-12 Health and Safety Orientation, yearbook pictures, and student IDs the week of September 8. In order to have students in the building in small groups, the schedule for this week will be different. We will communicate this soon. The Orientation will include a tour of the health and safety protocols and an opportunity for students to see all of the new upgrades our school received over the summer!

  • New students to GMHS in Grades 10-12 are asked to pick up Chromebook devices on August 21 between 9:00-2:00 p.m. Please enter at the Athletic entrance into the Gym.

Thank you for your continued support. Please see the Save the Date info below.

Go Rams!

Freshmen Class of 2024

  • As we continue preparing for the school year, we ask for Freshmen to come to GMHS on August 20th to pick up Chromebooks, take your photo for the yearbook and for your student ID.
  • Due to public health restrictions, we ask that only the student or a parent/guardian enter through the Athletic Entrance into the Gym. Masks must be worn and social distancing maintained.
  • A Virtual Freshmen Orientation is being planned and a link to the orientation will be provided at GMHS.org starting on August 20th.
  • An in person orientation for all students is being planned for the week of September 8th. We are working on this and hope to have detailed information soon.
