Dear Friend of CCSD93,
Creative Projects Underway at Newly Renovated Innovation Center
As the final elements of our new Innovation Centers at Heritage Lakes and Jay Stream are being put into place, Heritage Lakes has already used their space for engaging, creative student endeavors.

Today, students and educators live-streamed morning announcements using the IC's new Think Tank area as a production studio. It's a flexible space that was designed to facilitate a wide variety of relevant projects, and it features advanced audio/visual equipment perfect for undertakings like this.

Additionally, Mrs. Graff's kindergarteners were the first ever to utilize the IC's new performance area, featuring a dropdown stage backdrop/green screen where they put on a production of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears."

View the video below to learn more about today's use of the Think Tank space, and view this link to see the resulting morning announcements, featuring live reporting from "Hawaii."

Please be sure to review the following notes regarding our new safety tip reporting system, Glenbard Parent Series offerings, CCSD93's district and bus apps, important calendar dates, and a recap of last night's Board meeting.

Have a wonderful weekend!

New Safety Tip Line Offers Improved Student Safety Options
This year, CCSD93 is transitioning from its former safety tip line, SafeSchools Alert, to an improved safety tip line called the Safe School Helpline. Despite the similar name, Safe School Helpline is a new service. Like SafeSchools Alert, the Safe School Helpline enables students, parents, or staff members to submit bullying and safety concerns anonymously via website, text, or phone call. In addition, it offers a counseling and crisis call center that features trained counselors available 24/7/365 for individuals seeking assistance in coping with harmful thoughts, depression, or feelings of loneliness and loss.

Right now, as we transition, both SafeSchools Alert and the Safe School Helpline are accessible by our community. Starting January 1, 2020, however, we'll exclusively offer the Safe School Helpline. Look for more information on the Safe School Helpline to be sent to parents in the coming week. In the meantime, you're welcome to read their informational pamphlet here, and you'll find that the former SafeSchools Alert info on school and district websites has been replaced with Safe School Helpline info.
Download CCSD93's Bus Tracking App Today!
CCSD93 offers the FirstView bus app, which enables parents of students who ride our buses to track their child's bus in real time. Here are a few key notes on the app:
  • Secure information on downloading and logging into the app was emailed to parents on August 21.
  • Once you log in, you can set up thresholds for alerts when the bus is a certain distance or time away from your child's stop.
  • If you find your child's bus is ever running late, please be sure to check the app first.
  • If you have questions regarding your child's bus service, please call your child's school.
  • Account information was not generated on August 21 for certain students and parents in some rare instances. We apologize if you did not receive login information on August 21 and should have. We are working with our bus provider to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and will send login information to individuals affected as soon as possible.
For more, check your child's email, or visit www.ccsd93.com/FirstView

Attend FREE Parent Parent Presentations with Glenbard Parent Series on 8/28 & 9/5
Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) is an ongoing series of workshops and presentations geared toward helping adults navigate parenthood in modern times. They consistently feature nationally and internationally renowned speakers who provide insight into various aspects of what adolescent and teenage students encounter daily and advice for helping parents guide their children. They're terrific resources for our community, and even though it has Glenbard in its name, CCSD93 parents with or without students in high school absolutely are invited to attend. The following presentations will occur over the next couple weeks.
  • At Noon on Wednesday, August 28 at Glenbard North High School, Dr. Jonathan Singer will present Signs & Symptoms of Youth Suicide: How Parents & School Staff Can Work Together
