5 Heart Numbers You Need To Know

Knowing just a few key metrics can provide a pretty accurate picture of your current cardiac fitness—and give you ongoing motivation to maintain healthy heart numbers and improve less healthy ones. “It’s important to remember that all of these numbers fall on a continuous scale,” says Johns Hopkins cardiologist Michael Blaha, M.D., M.P.H. “It’s not enough to say you have high or low blood pressure—your doctor is looking at how high or how low.”

Student Spotlight: Patrice

Initially unsure if she would fit in at HCC, Patrice soon found that you are never too old to go back to school. She said, “I tell people, young or old, you’re never too old to go back to school. I advise all the younger kids to go and get some type of certification, if not a degree. Get more than one. It’s really a great school.”

Fueling Dragons Spotlight: Food Pantry
As more students return to campus the need to help fight food insecurity will increase. The campus food pantry provides access to nutritious food and personal care items and is open to only Howard Community College students. Help restock HCC's food pantry by bringing a canned food item to Thursday's training at Feet First or on race day.

Organizations are also invited to host food drives or donation drives to support the food pantry. For more information, contact pantry@howardcc.edu or learn more about the Fueling Dragons program HERE.
