These two little seals have
BIG NEWS to share!
Both of our non-releasable grey seals have found permanent placement in zoological facilities! You may recall that #22-060 (left) is visually impaired and unable to capture live fish, and #22-018 (right) has a cardiac condition that requires she be on medication for her entire life. We are thrilled that both of these girls will be provided with lifelong expert veterinary care, enrichment, and the companionship of other seals in these two world-class zoological facilities. Both seals will be amazing ambassadors for their wild counterparts, helping to inspire people to care about seals and their ocean habitat.

Stay tuned for more updates and announcements about their new homes in the coming weeks!

The MMSC has responded to seven North Atlantic Right Whales in distress, including this yearling that entered the Delaware River in December of 1994. The free-swimming whale explored the river for a week, earning him the nickname Shackleton after the intrepid explorer. The young whale exited the bay on his own, returning to the ocean. Shackleton has been sighted and photographed more than 200 times since his adventure in New Jersey, from Canada to Florida. His most recent sighting was in 2019 in Massachusetts Bay at the age of 25. You can follow the travels of Shackleton and nearly all of the NARW's alive today in the North Atlantic Right Whale Catalog.
Sponsor Trivia
Green Sea Turtles are primarily herbivores, eating mainly seagrass and kelp. This green diet causes the fat and cartilage to turn a green color. This green colored fat and cartilage is where Green Sea Turtles get their name!

Thank you Pirates Den for sponsoring this week's trivia!
