"If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts. Come, let us sing joyfully to the LORD."
Message from the Principal
Dear Families and Friends,

We want to thank all of the families who joined us this past Sunday for our Back to School Bash. It was great to see so many familiar faces and to welcome new ones. If your family did not receive a family handbook or calendar, you may get one from the main office. Please take some time to review the 2019-2020 Student-Family Handbook, the school calendar, and other information you received this week. We ask that all families read the handbook and sign the verification form and photography release form provided in the back of the handbook. These forms are due to your student’s teacher or to the main office by Friday, August 23rd. If you ever have any questions, please let us know.

Mark your calendars for our annual Back to School Night, which is scheduled for Thursday, August 22nd from 6:30-7:30 p.m. This evening is a time for you to learn more about classroom expectations, homework expectations, and other items of note for the year. Our teachers are being asked to hold two informational meetings for parents that night in their classrooms. The first meeting will run from 6:30-7:00 and the second from 7:00-7:30. Junior high parents will meet in the school cafeteria with all junior high teachers during these same timeframes. All other teachers will hold their meetings in their classrooms. Remember that you can earn one volunteer hour for attending this event, so we hope to see everyone that night.

Finally, please note that our first All School liturgy will be held next Thursday, August 15th, as we celebrate the feast of the Assumption. Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. in St. Michael Church. All are welcome to join us in worship.

Working together, we know we can make this a successful school year!

God Bless,
Mrs. Ramos
Announcements
After School Dismissal Procedures

As a reminder, parents are not allowed to park alongside the church on Tibbs Avenue, by the rectory, by the Parish Life Center, or in front of the Advancement Office at Cardinal Ritter. For everyone’s safety, please enter through the parking lot after school to pick up your student and wait for students to be released to their cars. Also, please note that we will no longer be crossing students across 30 th Street this year. All walkers will be walked down the eastside of the school and released back into the neighborhood on Bonham Drive.
Picture Day!

School pictures will be taken this Monday, August 19 . Students may dress up or their may wear their school uniform. Students may not wear shorts, jeans, or sweatpants. All clothing must be school appropriate.
2018-19 Yearbooks

If your student ordered a school yearbook, please pick those up in the main office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If you didn't order one but would like one, we did order a few more books which we will sell on a first come first serve basis. The cost is $18 per book.
Student Medications

This is a reminder to all families that if your student has any prescribed medications to take while at school, we must have the medication brought in its original container with the student’s name and proper dosage labeled on the prescription bottle. Also, if your student needs medication for headaches or allergies, please send that medicine to the main office with your student’s name and instructions for proper dosage noted. All medications must be brought to the main office. Students cannot keep these items with them.
After Care Workers Needed

St. Michael-St. Gabriel is looking for three adults interested in working and supervising our students in After Care throughout the school year. This is a paid position, and all workers must complete the required Safe and Sacred training through the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and complete a background check. If interested, please contact Mrs. Ramos at  lramos@indyarchangel.org
8 th Grade Electronic Devices

Once again we will be allowing our eighth grade students to bring in and use their own computer devices to take notes and work on assignments for their classes. With more and more of our students taking high school classes both at St. Michael-St. Gabriel and at Cardinal Ritter High School, we see a greater need to acclimate our students to the 1 to 1 technology environment they will experience in high school. Therefore, eighth grade students will be allowed to bring in their own computer devices (tablets, iPads, notebooks, or laptops) to use in class. Cell phones cannot be used as their computer devices in class. In August, students and parents will be required to sign an Acceptable Use Policy in order for students to use our internet and their devices, as there will be specific guidelines students will need to follow. A copy of this policy must be on file before a student is allowed to bring in his or her device. Students will also be responsible for the devices they bring. The school will not assume any responsibility for lost or broken devices.
Safe and Sacred Training

We would like to remind all our families wishing to help with activities where our students are present that individuals must have completed the Safe and Sacred online training and completed a background check in order to volunteer or to serve as chaperones for a field trip. Please understand that until the certificate and background check are on file, we cannot, per the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, allow individuals to volunteer or work as employees of the school without this training and background check completed. If you completed your Safe and Sacred training, but did not complete the background check, simply log in to your account with your password and press the background check to complete the entire process. If you completed your training over a year ago or are unsure of your status, please log in to your Safe and Sacred account to see whether your training and background check are current. All Safe and Sacred certificates will have an expiration date on them, allowing your training to be valid for three years. To access the Safe and Sacred website, please go to the following: https://safeandsacred-archindy.org/login/index.php
Trash Bag Order Forms
