A note from 8-koi headquarters :: spring 2023
|
|
Welcome spring and all that comes with it – growth, renewal and new beginnings. Our resilience and commitment to our core values - Passion, Excellence, Dependability, Thoughtfulness – help us emerge stronger than ever and we are poised to focus on the future. Part of this means investing in the next generation of leaders, sowing the seeds that will allow them to grow and thrive in the years ahead.
I'd like to emphasize the importance of succession planning within our company. It's essential that we identify and cultivate untapped potential among our employees, providing them with the mentorship and opportunities they need to develop into our future leaders.
As we look to pass on the work and responsibility of our organization to the next generation, we'll do so in a strategic and deliberate manner. We're looking for the individuals who have the skills, knowledge and passion to carry our mission forward and have the willingness to invest in their growth and development over the long term.
8-koi is prepared with new opportunities for rising stars to engage with special projects, cross-functional collaborations and initiatives that help build relationships and develop new skills. I encourage you to take an active role by looking for ways to create a culture of mentorship and engagement that will serve us for years to come. I’m inspired by our team’s continuous hard work and dedication and because of you and our shared mission, new possibilities.
As we navigate challenges and opportunities that come our way, let’s remember that supporting the team and each other brings out the best in everyone.
And to recent graduates, congratulations on this important milestone.
Spring reminds us that even the smallest seed has the potential to grow into something beautiful in the right environment. Thank you for you continued dedication and hard work. Together we're strengthening our future and the communities we serve.
Thank you for all you do.
Onward,

Sharing Appreciation for Our 8-koi Team
|
In March we celebrated Employee Appreciation Day with food and a team headband theme. Daily our team demonstrates 8-koi core values and ‘human touch’. Your leadership sees you and appreciates you.
Sharing praise, I see…
- Dean working like a machine and taking positive strides at 8-koi. He’s led the technical division as well as operating as COO.
- Matt Charmbury is a superstar exemplifying our 8-koi core values, which is documented by our customers in the CPARS.
- Lisa McCarty is a modest powerhouse. She’s meticulous, studious and it’s a pleasure to work with her.
I see you and thank you.

PROGRESS WITH OUR 4 Ps:
People, Programs, Processes and Pipeline
Our 8-koi team continues to gain traction going into the first quarter by executing excellent “Human Touch” operations. Here are some of our highlights:
PEOPLE:
This quarter I had the opportunity to get on the road and visit clients and employees. Starting with our Cyber Security Engineers at Patrick Space Force Base, I met both Suann Willoughby and Gerald Rainer who are superbly supporting our customer. I traveled to our US Navy Physical Readiness Program employees in Millington, TN, and had the pleasure meeting Gordon Smith again and Mike Wallace for the first time. My travels continued to the FBI HQ and lunched with employees Christine Hohl, Tracy Savoy and Ka’Teria Spears. The following day I visited the 8-koi employees supporting the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Amerina Chu took the time to guide me around all the construction, introduce me to the team on shift and get food and drinks for the team. Temeika Morse, Dana Jackson, Darnell Jones and Jazel Salvador taught me about the emergency dispatch operations. Our long-time employee Benita Lee and I caught up and she appreciated the new 8-koi lanyard and spin wheel. Soon we’ll have new shirts to share with the team.
PROGRAMS:
Construction
- 8-koi was awarded the Mobil Launcher-1 HVAC Condenser Units replacement effort. 8-koi is to replace seven of the condensers on the mobile launcher tower with uprated units. Our team will provide all labor, materials, equipment, tools, transportation, specialties and incidentals necessary to provide a new fully operational split air conditioning unit system to serve the electrical rooms in the mobile launcher.
- 8-koi was awarded the Solary Park Trail Connectivity project for the city of Oviedo, FL. The project consists of construction of trail hardscape features (12-foot-wide asphalt trail, gravity wall, etc.), construction of a pedestrian crossing at Geneva Drive consisting of a road tabletop crosswalk, pedestrian poles/signs, sidewalk and installation of landscape.
- 8-koi was awarded to replace the Vehicle Assembly Building 175 Ton crane operator cab air conditioner unit.
Design Engineering
Cape Design Engineering successfully captured contracts supporting multiple federal, state and county agencies. Some projects include:
- Volusia County Tactical Operations Building
- Daytona Beach Shores Dune Walkover Replacement engineering reports
- Arc Flash Study ESU NASA
- Design to provide for Redundant Cooling Water Pump NASA
Healthcare
8-koi’s healthcare division is busy supporting the DHA Emergency Dispatch Services Contract. 8-koi operates this contract 365/24/7 at Walter Reed.
Technical Administration
Supported hiring efforts for the DC area and is supporting multiple proposal efforts.
PROCESS: Our traction efforts were enhanced as we continue to receive quarterly EOS Training. We made significant ISO perpetration efforts in Q1 and are ready for our ISO 9001:2015 audit in early Q2. Our limited scope ISO will focus on our Healthcare division and the supporting elements of HR, recruiting and credentialing. The ISO prep team has been led by John Weiler and supported by Regina “Rocket” Weiler.
PIPELINE: We continue to leverage our 8(a) eligibility – valid until April 2023. We won a total of seven contracts and identified 53 new business development opportunities being evaluated for pursuit this quarter. As always, we're pursing both prime and sub-contractor opportunities and are open to opportunities, newbusiness@8-koi.com.
As a team we continue to build on our strengths and work through the challenges and unknowns that arise. We have the momentum we need and a strong team with the right tools to make our shared goals a reality.
As always, your questions, suggestions and thoughtful emails are welcome.

MEET THE TEAM :: Kritika Kanphade
Mechanical Engineer
|
Kritika Kanphade recently reached the five-year milestone with 8-koi’s CDE, serving the company and its clients as a mechanical engineer. Kritika joined the team in March 2018, shortly after graduating from the University of Texas at San Antonio with her master’s degree in mechanical engineering. She connected with CDE through LinkedIn while looking for employment after graduating and soon joined the team. Fast forward to present day and Kritika describes the feeling of working with 8-koi as “a second family.”
Kritika appreciates the learning experiences and opportunities at 8-koi and has supported and worked on various projects including: Eastern Florida State College, Brevard schools, Palm Beach State College, Sheriff training facility, Port Orange City Hall, Florida Power & Light, and Astronaut Memorial Foundation facility.
Born and raised in Inda, Kritika moved to the US in 2015 to pursue her master’s degree. Most of her family still resides in Inda. Last December, after a six-year hiatus, Kritika retuned to visit her family and friends. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her local friends and exploring new places, camping, traveling and cooking new Indian dishes. She’s a fan of Zumba, pickleball, tennis, board games and keeps up with new trends on Instagram.
