a note from 8-koi headquarters :: winter 2021
We made it, Team! Last year, which is beyond description, is finally behind us. While we survived 2020 without any major fallout, thankfully, and I know that 2021 has yet to show it's true character, I can't help but feel like we have so much to gain. Behind our progress and growth is YOU and our shared vision for the year(s) ahead. We maintain our values of being passionate and thoughtful in our work, as well as being dependable, and that is what helped us stay afloat during uncertain times.

As we embark on the new year, we are setting goals and 10-year targets for 8-koi and CDE to be recognized as a reputable company able to prime multiple competitively awarded opportunities by 2030. Our strategy will be driven by our three unique attributes of design/build/staff and supply –leveraging our 8(a) and EDWOSB designations.

As for the goal setting and company direction, I’ll say -for me - it’s a matter of letting our people know that we truly care about our agreements and outcomes and that we are here to meet their needs. Being thoughtful and dependable are our core values, and our processes reflect this intent and help us to enhance our programs so we can fill our pipeline, as Dean will remind you.

So, if we set a future date of 12/31/2023, I am targeting 200% growth in three years. I see our Construction Division being our largest revenue stream with 34% of our total revenue. Our Design Engineering, Technical/Administrative and the Healthcare Division have room to grow in tandem, so I estimate the other three divisions will make up roughly 22% of our total revenue over the next three years. Because of all the work we did behind the scenes to improve our technology, infrastructure and processes in 2020, we will set a lofty 38% revenue target for 2021. This can’t be done without the people, YOU!

Every employee is an 8-koi BD person. I want to keep everyone busy with new pursuits and focus on pWin rates of 30% for Healthcare and Technical/Admin Services, 40% for Design Engineering, and 10% for Construction. I believe that it can be done with our shared commitment to excellence and a united spirit to keep business going, not just as usual, but even better than before.

Thank you for taking this journey me as we continue to ride the current into a new day.

With gratitude,
Inga

Getting back to the 4 Ps:
People, Programs, Processes and Pipeline

We ended the year with an All Hands staff meeting and staying true to our EOS that keeps us focused, let’s review:

People: First is always our People. In the coming years, we strive to achieve an 85% Voluntary Retention Rate and Very Good to Excellent CPARS/Customer Feedback. These goals depend on creating an excellent work environment that will attract the best employees to increase billable FTEs and help us reach a 90% pWin rate on our recompete efforts. This will require us to also increase internal staff support to sustain growth while keeping G&A low.

Programs: We are becoming more recognizable in our current markets, we’re looking to expand our footprint and operate in more states to meet customer demand. This is going to depend a lot on winning new contracts as a Prime with the right subcontractors on board. As we continue to look at viable opportunities and teammates for future work, we will focus on how we can fill gaps in our current Programs to be more competitive.

Processes: Our Processes will evolve to meet the rigor of meeting our goals, and we will take it one year at a time. Succession planning and infrastructure, marketing strategy targeting government clients, large business primes, and county school boards are all going to help us meet our target objectives and stay viable for the long haul.

Using the EOS we’ve identified a proven process to maintain our client focus: Responsive/agile customer support driving word of mouth business and having empowered PMs as the central point for all communications with the client. In action, this is the rapid response time to clients and colleagues we talked about in our last meeting. This can be dependent on the situation but we strive to return phone calls to clients and colleagues within one hour and offer that courtesy again if there is no response. For client emails, we expect our team to respond within three hours and for colleague e-mails within the next day. Finally, we aim to provide our services and products to our clients with better than industry standards for deficiency and guarantee to complete projects on time and within budget.

Pipeline: To keep our Pipeline full with new opportunities for years to come we are expanding Business Development training to more staff in the coming year. We want you to be empowered to seek and secure new opportunities.

As always your questions, suggestions and thoughtful emails are welcome to help us improve our operations.

Stay healthy and be safe,

Dean

MEET THE TEAM ::
Jeyssa Mast
Corporate Recruiter

Joining the 8-koi team as corporate recruiter in January 2020, Jeyssa Mast brings with her seasoned corporate experience and professional networks. More importantly she’s known for her reliability, follow through and helping newcomers ease into the 8-koi culture – finding just the right match for the opportunity.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Jeyssa moved to Orlando in 1994. She came to learn English and stayed to begin her college career. Later she returned to Puerto Rico to care for a loved one, all while completing her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration Management and almost completing a bachelor’s in Commercial Law. Those uncompleted classes still call her name to return and earn that second bachelor’s degree.

She’s been back in the states since 2004 and now has two children, Jaden and Jalie, and recently married Pilot Eric Mast. The two wed at her favorite architectural structure, the dreamy Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Together the family attends church, and takes pride in supporting their neighbors, helping others along their career journey, and valuing education.

“For if you suffer your people to be ill-educated, and their manners to be corrupted from their infancy, and then punish them for those crimes to which their first education disposed them, what else is to be concluded from this, but that you first make thieves and then punish them.” ― Sir Thomas More, Utopia
