company updates from 8-koi :: spring-summer '19
Happy Summer! 8-koi is in full bloom and our roots in the community are growing. It’s been a couple of months since 8-koi expanded its construction division and acquired Merritt Island design-build firm Cape Design Engineering Co. (CDE) as a wholly-owned subsidiary. Together under the same umbrella we’re able to continue to offer Full-Spectrum Contracting Solutions with a Human Touch, now with more resources for our clients.

As we continue to expand and become more established in our high-tech corridor community we become more entrenched in the organizations that support it. 8-koi is a member of the Space Coast Chapter of Women in Defense, Society of American Military Engineers Space Coast Post, GrowFL, US Small Business Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast, Military Spouse Employment Partnership and Central Florida Marine Corps Foundation to date. Our reach, touch and involvement in industry associations both local and national will continue to evolve, so will our potential for new work across the spectrum of training, administrative and technical services, healthcare, construction and design engineering.

Despite changes our core values remain the same. Our focus is steadfast on supporting our customers with Passion, Excellence, Dependability and Thoughtfulness. Looking forward we’ll maintain a steady beat and continue to follow through on current deliverables, satisfying client needs and shared goals. As we ensure a smooth transition for construction work, 8-koi will look to expand its headquarters to support our growth in staff and diverse clients.

I welcome your feedback at any time or if you have questions, please send an email to [email protected], or call our office directly at 321.802.6768.

Enjoy the great news in this issue of 8-koi kurrents, and feel free to pass it along.

SAME Space Coast Awards Scholarships
8-koi has been providing Mil-Spec construction services for over five years. We have learned a lot, and we look forward to continuing our work and growing to hire more experts in their fields. Being a Corporate Member of SAME Space Coast allows our personnel to stay current with industry trends and best practices, in addition to supporting scholarships for the next generation. In May, four students were awarded $2,500 each for their construction-related education. We wish them all the best and hope we may have a chance to work together in the future. MEET THE TEAM :: Sirena Hendrickson
Accounting Lead
Sirena Hendrickson joined 8-koi in July 2016 as an intern. Since then her responsibilities have grown and she currently supports 8-koi as the accounting lead – supervisor of accounts payable, payroll, managing 8-koi’s cash flow, filing quarterly and yearly taxes, and project reporting – that’s her part-time work. Full time she attends Eastern Florida State College pursing an Associates of Arts degree as well as Associates of Science in Business Administration degree. This summer she will graduate with three accounting certificates and one business management certificate: accounting technology management, accounting technology specialist and accounting technology operations and business management certificate. Following graduation, Sirena plans on attending the University of Central Florida or the University of Florida to major in accounting.

Beyond school and work Sirena enjoys time with friends and family and lives an active lifestyle. If she’s not at the gym, she’s delving into a tennis match, hitting balls at the driving range or pitching, hitting and playing catch at the softball field. In her downtime grabbing a good book and relaxing by the pool or beach is among her favorite things to do.

Her love for animals shows. She shares her home with two bunnies, three cats and five dogs ranging in different sizes and personalities: Doberman/Great Dane mix, Husky/Lab mix, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Shih Tzu and Cur/Lab Mix. There’s never a dull moment in the life of Sirena.

Replaced Pressure Relief Valves at Kings Bay NAVAL Submarine Base Being Completed

8-koi is repairing the only dry dock that services Trident Submarines on the east coast. Operational constraints to the dry dock pose challenges and therefore completing the project within the windowed timeframe were quite stringent. The system is critical to the operating facility and outages had to be minimized. 8-koi teamed with the NAVY to establish an approved schedule with acceptable outages and met all of the scheduled milestones and requirements.

Fun facts - the Kings Bay Naval Base in Georgia is the home port to ballistic missile submarines and guided missile submarines of the US Navy Atlantic Fleet. The USS Tennessee was the first Trident submarine to arrive at the base in January 1989. Today, the Trident submarines can dive to depths of up to two thousand feet.
