Every August 11, we join organizations across the country to recognize National 811 Day. This day reminds us that one simple call can prevent injuries, service disruptions, and damage to critical infrastructure. 

At Wolverine Pipe Line Company, safety is central to everything we do. Whether you are planting a tree, installing a fence, building a deck, or starting a major construction project, contacting 811 before you dig is the first step toward a safe project.

Thank you to homeowners, contractors, excavators, and emergency responders who help protect our communities by prioritizing safe digging.

Millions of miles of underground utilities run beneath our communities, including pipelines, natural gas lines, electric lines, communications cables, and water systems.

 

The good news is that preventing these incidents is simple. Before you start any digging project, contact 811 or submit an online request a few business days in advance. Utility companies will mark the approximate location of underground lines.

This way, you can dig safely and help avoid injuries, service disruptions, and costly repairs.

1. Plan Ahead

Contact 811 several business days before starting your project.

2. Make the Call

Call 811 or submit an online ticket request.

3. Wait for Utility Markings

Utility operators will mark the approximate location of underground lines.

4. Respect the Marks

Do not remove or disturb utility markings.

5. Dig Carefully

Hand dig around marked utilities and always use caution.

Utility line infrastructure is often installed very close to the surface. Therefore, even shallow digging may damage these lines unless they have been located by calling 811 before digging.

Calling 811 is free and takes only a few minutes. When you call 811, your local utilities will send someone to locate underground utilities as closely as possible using paint, flags, or other markers. This process will allow you to safely dig around these lines.

PIPE Program

Wolverine’s community outreach initiative, Partners in Pipeline Education (PIPE), is designed to build strong relationships with the communities we serve. Through the PIPE Program, we make personal connections to the local Fire Departments, Police Departments, Emergency Management Personnel, Government Officials and other stakeholders with whom we work with for normal operation and maintenance activities and in case of an actual emergency.
