Still Time to Earn Pro Logger Credits In 2021
|
|
We all know that because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Oregon Logging Conference in February of 2021 was held in a non-traditional manner. The opportunity this year to earn Pro Logger credits in association with the Oregon Logging Conference was by watching pre-recorded seminars and presentations on current industry issues.
Those pre-recorded seminars and presentations will be available for viewing and thus earning Pro Logger credits, until December 31, 2021.
As we proceed with plans for a traditional Oregon Logging Conference in 2022, the goal is to have timber industry professionals earn Pro Logger credits by attending in-person seminars and panel discussions at the Lane Events Center and Fairgrounds.
The previous article in this newsletter describes some of those seminar and panel discussion topics. Watch for more details in future editions of the OLC NEWS newsletter, as well as the OLC website and Facebook page.

Oregon Women in Timber Plans for
2022 Auction and Keeps Active Supporting
the Timber Industry
|
|
The date is set, and we are excited about seeing everybody in person next year at the annual dinner and auction at the Graduate Eugene Hotel. As always, this auction is held during the Oregon Logging Conference, and the date is Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Doors will open and the silent auction will be underway at 4 p.m., dinner is at 6:30 p.m., and the live auction is planned for 8:00 p.m.
Auction letters have gone out and we have begun to receive donations! To make a donation or purchase tickets or a table, visit the auction website at https://orwit.ejoinme.org/2022auction
At the 2022 OLC OWIT will have a booth and will partner with the Oregon Logging Conference Foundation and Forests Today and Forever, to provide school tours for local county students. We will also be joining in the Saturday Family Day activities, including building bird feeders with the Miss Oregon Volunteer program, at the Wheeler Pavilion. Coni Fir just might be there too.
Speaking of which, it was in December of 2020 that Coni Fir Connections was launched, an educational project that encourages kids to disconnect from technology and spend some time learning about forestry. Coni Fir Connections is a seasonal kit that can be purchased on the OWIT website and will be mailed directly to the recipient. It contains a newsletter, hands-on activities and a coloring contest. The Fall Coni Fir Connections is now available and includes many adventurous activities that teach about protecting trees from the things that can harm them.
OWIT has six thriving chapters: Clatsop, Coos, Douglas, Landing (Polk, Marion, Yamhill), Lane, and Union. It’s been amazing to see the continued growth and passion for OWIT during this pandemic. Admittedly, this past year has been a challenge, but the above-mentioned chapters have persevered by meeting virtually or in small groups when appropriate. The opportunities created by the virtual world have allowed our chapters to continue to thrive as we come up with new ways to engage and educate about forestry.
OWIT activities vary by chapter and usually include different events within each community, including Forest Products week in October. This past year chapters have also participated in SOLVE beach clean-up events, fair booths, Ag-Fest, Thru the Trees video contest, and the annual Ag-Timber Parade.
There is always an opportunity to start a new OWIT chapter, all it takes is three members and the willingness to have at least two meetings a year. OWIT is always looking for fresh ideas and more volunteers. Involvement can be great or small depending on time and interest. Membership dues are $40 per year and a printable form can be found online at https://www.orwit.org/membership-form.
Speaking of online, OWIT is excited to announce the launch of a new website this year. The web address is the same, but quite a bit has changed. We are planning to grow and develop the website and urge you to take a look. If you aren’t already signed up to receive our newsletter, you can do that on the website.
Oregon Women in Timber is a proud, statewide, non-profit organization dedicated to creating awareness of the importance of forests, trees, and woods products in our daily lives.
