86th Annual Market Structure Conference:
Realizing Opportunity

On behalf of the entire STA Board of Governors, we are pleased to announce that online registration for STA's 86th Annual Market Structure Conference will be open in the coming weeks. We will once again hold our event at the JW Marriott Washington DC, this year from Oct 2-4, 2019. This location offers the ideal setting for firms and individuals alike to communicate and strengthen ties with peers, key regulators and legislators.

We witnessed record registration in 2018, with more than 700 attendees across 259 firms, and our 2019 event will be organized under the same guiding principles:  best content, best networking and best value .

The title of the 2019 Market Structure Conference is Realizing Opportunity . It expresses two fundamental beliefs: regulation lends credibility to innovation and innovation creates opportunity, which fosters economic growth. Innovation and opportunity exist in both mature and emerging markets, but they cannot be realized to their fullest potential or continue to exist without a proper regulatory regime.

We witnessed record registration in 2018, with more than 700 attendees across 259 firms, and our 2019 event will be organized under the same guiding principles:  best content, best networking and best value.

Today, innovation and opportunities abound across a wide range of areas such as digital assets, ETPs, equities and options. Realizing Opportunity recognizes that regulation, while at times lagging, is an essential component for innovation to continue driving our industry forward.

This year’s program will highlight innovation and opportunity within segments of our markets and the proper regulatory regimes needed to foster the former in order to realize the latter. Some of the specific areas of focus will include Environmental, Social and Governance Investing (ESG) , RegTech, Data Analytics and Digital Assets , along with familiar market structure issues impacting Equities , Exchange-Traded Products and Listed Options .

Another area of focus we will be exploring is the evolution of Capital Formation . While financial markets have performed this role since inception, capital formation is very different today and recommendations to improve it have ramifications on market structure.

You can expect certain program elements to return, as we kick off Wednesday morning with the 4th Annual STA Women in Finance Symposium in the Grand Ballroom, and the guided Run/Walk around the National Mall on Friday morning.

We hope to see you among the 700 industry professionals – exchanges, broker-dealers, buy-side, retail brokerage firms, service providers – October 2-4 in Washington DC. Check out our conference page below for more details on content and presenters coming soon.
