Hello 8th Ward Neighbor,
I want to thank you all for your continued participation in the many processes that we have in the 8th Ward. This year we plan to have more meetings, and deliver more important information to you.

The goal is to deliver services to the constituents of the 8th Ward. That is a goal I have pushed for and will continue to do so.

2016 Roof and Porch Program

The Roof and Porch Repair Program is administered through a lottery process. Registration for the 2017 Roof and Porch Repair Program will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016. 

Residents can register for the lottery by calling 311 or DPD customer service at 312.744.3653. Online registration will also be available on this web page. 

Registration does not guarantee participation in the program. A random lottery drawing, which will be held at a later date, will be used to select participants. Those selected will be formally notified by mail and their addresses and confirmation numbers will be posted on our website.

The Chicago Historic Bungalow Association will coming to the 8th Ward Office to talk about their upcoming Energy Saver Grant to Chicago Certified Bungalow

In conjuction with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, the 8th Ward will host a FREE Rain Barrel Giveaway. The giveaway will take place at a session that will occur at top of each hour. There are a limited amount of barrels so it is FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE.

2016 Summer Senior Life Enrichment Guide

The Summer 2016 edition of the Chicago Department of Family and Support Service's (DFSS) Senior Life Enrichment Guide is now available.  The guide highlights programs and activities offered by the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services for Chicagoans ages "60 Years and Better".

 Inside, seniors will find information about health and wellness, educational, recreational and many other types of events, trips, classes and lectures, along with schedules and registration details.  Most of these are free or at a nominal cost.

 From July through September, Chicago seniors are invited to visit the Older Adult Choice Markets located in one of five DFSS regional senior centers across the City.  The Choice Markets, operated by the Greater Chicago Food Depository, offer seniors free fresh fruits, vegetables and nonperishable groceries.  More information on the Markets, including dates and locations, are in the summer Enrichment Guide.

2016 Senior Fest

The Chicago Department of Family & Support Services holds this yearly event for people ages 55 plus will be offering  numerous services beneficial to the attendees. Agencies and hospitals are invited to participate and provide health screenings such as: blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes. Also participating agencies will offer information on social and human services, health plans and other resources that will benefit the senior population.

Homebuyer Assistance Programs

City of Chicago Home Buyers Assistance

This year, the City of Chicago announce The Home Buyer Assistance Program, which will help make home-ownership possible for working families and individuals by providing support for down payment and closing costs.

Through the Home Buyer Assistance Program qualified buyers may receive a grant for up to 5 percent of the total loan amount based on income. The program is intended to assist a broad range of families that include middle- and low-income households. Depending on whether they select an FHA-insured loan or a loan insured by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, home buyers can have annual incomes of up to 160 percent of the area median income – approximately $121,000.
