9,000 More House Call Providers Needed, Your Donation Can Help Close the Gap

Over 9,000 additional home-based primary care providers are needed right now to provide care to the more than 5.9 million homebound and home-limited patients in the U.S. who can't access it. To close that gap, HCCI is working to encourage more providers — both current and new — to consider HBPC as a career option.

To date, for example, through its academic subscription bundle, HCCI has educated over 100 residents and trainees, but the need for this training extends far beyond that number. Therefore, HCCI is ready to expand its reach to academic programs, turning this bundle into a House Calls Training Program — but we need your help!

Donate Now

As an HCCInsider, for only $15 a month, your donation (which will be doubled by a generous HCCI donor) will cover the cost to provide early career online training in home-based primary care for a medical resident or trainee and accomplish the following:

  • Offer vital exposure for residents, and those training to be advanced practice nurses or physician assistants, since most medical training does not include home-based primary care ─ possibly propelling them to become future house call providers.

  • Educate residents and trainees on the benefits of collaborating with, or referring their very complex or homebound patients, to house call providers.

  • Provide more career satisfaction, as house call providers often share how caring for people in their homes lets them treat patients more holistically, spend more time with them, and fulfill their original purpose of helping people, the very reason they likely chose medicine as a career.

What happens if we don’t provide that training? That resident or trainee may not be exposed to house calls; may not become a house call provider; and by extension, would not be able to contribute to solving the problem currently facing thousands of patients, their caregivers and family ─ how to find a provider that will come to their home, or place they call “home,” especially when the patient’s physical and/or mental decline make getting to the provider’s office a challenge, or even an all-day affair.

Now, imagine if your loved one was one of those people who needs this care.

HCCI Board Member Shares His Purpose and Passion

People support the Home Centered Care Institute (HCCI) in a variety of ways, including donating, advocating, and serving on its staff or board of directors. And they do so for many reasons.

For HCCI board member Kermit Crawford, former President and Chief Operating Officer of Rite Aid Corporation and Executive Vice President and President of Pharmacy, Health & Wellness at Walgreens Boots Alliance, among other roles, his reasons are both personal and professional. He has dedicated his career to health and well-being, and he has seen the need for home-based primary care up-close while caring for his aging parents and in-laws.

For Crawford, therefore, spreading the word about how HCCI educates, guides, and assists providers, practices, patients, and caregivers to give or receive house calls is very personal. “In some ways, we're all becoming caretakers,” Crawford said.
