As we approach the twelfth anniversary of September 11, 2001, we remember and mourn our own losses and support and pray for all the families, friends and colleagues murdered in the terrorist attacks.
Below is a list of anniversary ceremonies and schedules. For additional ceremonies and events, visit www.911families.org.
With the anniversary coming near, the 9/11 Tribute Center is joining with the USO for another Day of Service & Remembrance building bikes for children of active U.S. military and veterans. The event brings volunteers from many corporations together, many of whom have a connection to 9/11, to give back to our troops and their families. We encourage all citizens in the U.S. and abroad during the month of September to unite in service the same remarkable way that so many same together following the attacks. Volunteer and support your community, mark your act of service at www.911day.org.
Best wishes,
The Tribute family

Employees from companies affected by the terrorist attacks of 9/11 will come together to remember their friends and colleagues and to celebrate the spirit of community on September 26, 2013.
The 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance was established in 2009 to engage all Americans to voluntarily support charitable causes, perform good deeds or engage in other service activities in observance of the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

With the assistance of the USO, the bikes (and helmets) will be donated to children of active United States military families and wounded veterans. As in years past, the NYPD, FDNY and PAPD will be among the companies represented.

From September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance and MyGoodDeed:
The September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance is the culmination of efforts originally launched in 2002 by the 9/11 nonprofit MyGoodDeed, click here for their website, started by two friends, David Paine and Jay Winuk, with wide support from the 9/11 community. This effort first established the inspiring tradition of charitable service on 9/11 as an annual tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors, and rescue and recovery workers. What started out to be an organization called One Day's Pay, in honor of Jay's brother, Glenn Winuk, and all others who died at the World Trade Center on 9/11, was later renamed MyGoodDeed.
In the years thereafter David and Jay were joined by more than 22 other leaders in the 9/11 community to help build support for the 9/11 Day Observance. In 2009, Congress designated September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance under bipartisan federal law, and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service with helping to support this effort across the country. For the anniversary, CNCS is working with MyGoodDeed and numerous other organizations to implement one of the largest days of charitable service in U.S. history.

THE WORLD TRADE CENTER & BATTERY PARK CITY PROGRAM AT MUSEUM OF JEWISH HERITAGE
On the evening of September 11 at 7:00, there will be a talk at the Museum of Jewish Heritage about the relationship of Battery Park City and the World Trade Center. The talk, Parallel Stories: The World Trade Center and Battery Park City, will feature panelists Clifford Chanin from the National September 11 Memorial Museum, Carol Willis from The Skyscraper Museum, and Matthew Fenton, editor in chief of The Broadsheet, Battery Park's local paper.
The evening will celebrate the renewal of Battery Park City's thriving cultural landscape and will explore the neighborhood's connection to the Trade Center site.
The first buildings of Battery Park City were created using soil excavated for the building of the World Trade Center in the 1960s. Once the buildings were up, they were intimately tied to the World Trade Center in terms of pedestrian access and commerce. When the World Trade Center was destroyed in 2001, it left Battery Park City isolated physically and created an enormous vacuum in the neighborhood's community life. The rebuilding at the World Trade Center has already begun to revitalize downtown but it is anticipated that in the next several years the dynamic relationship between Battery Park City and the World Trade Center will be significantly transformed by the new connecting tunnel into the Winter Garden and other public amenities.

ZURICH LUNCH AND VOLUNTEER DAY
When Zurich employees came to the 9/11 Tribute Center on June 7 to participate in a project for Corporate Global Volunteer Day, it also became a meaningful opportunity for the group to share their personal recollections about 9/11. Over twenty Zurich employees gathered at Tribute to help catalogue cards written by visitors about their own 9/11 experiences and thoughts for the future. These poignant statements and drawings are written in English and languages from around the world, and are displayed in the Tribute Center. Before starting the activity, Tribute's curator, Meri Lobel, asked the group if any were working in the area on 9/11. Nearly every hand in the room was raised. Time was then given so staffers could share personal stories of survival, remembrance and resilience.
Tribute has a strong partnership with Zurich, and has worked with the company on a series of different projects and events. In July, Tribute hosted a special "breakfast and learn" at Zurich. Tribute CEO, Jennifer Adams and Lee Ielpi, Tribute Board President, gave employees an overview of the museum's history, mission and volunteer program. Steve Kern, a Tribute volunteer guide and a lawyer with the Port Authority for over thirty years, then told his moving 9/11 story, and offered an intimate perspective on the history of the World Trade Center site and current rebuilding.
Tribute's relationship with Zurich is strengthened by the company's commitment to remembrance and giving back to the community. On 9/11, Zurich lost five employees, John Keohane, Peggy Alario, Kathy Moran and Lud Picarro. The following year, to honor the memories of the Zurich employees who perished, Zurich created the KAMP award, an acronym using the names of the five who lost their lives. The award is given annually to employees who exemplify the highest values of service and compassion. On the evening of September 17th, for the third consecutive year, Tribute will be hosting the KAMP award ceremony.
If your company or organization would like to participate in a service project with the 9/11 Tribute Center, please contactvolunteer@tributewtc.org.
