we really need a reflections volunteer!
Imagine being showered with amazing artwork, writing and other arts achievements! The chair of the Reflections committee is still an open position, so that person surrounded by student art could be you. LHS students year after year submit wonderful works and enjoy great success, sometimes all the way to the national level. But without parent support, we won't be able to offer the program this year.

TONIGHT at 6:30 pm is the training reception for all the Reflections chairs in Fairfax County. Won't you consider being our parent coordinator this year? Send an email to ptsalangley@gmail.com if you're interested, even if you're not able to go to the training tonight. No experience is necessary; the local PTSA will provide all the info you need.  Our Langley artists need you! More information about the program is available here.

sports
Congratulations to the Girls' Varsity Volleyball team for winning the Virginia Volleyball Showcase in Richmond over Labor Day weekend.

cross country: The team had an Invitational this weekend at Burke Lake Park, a 3 mile race. The top 15 runners in each race received a medal. Each race had more than 200 runners, with more than 20 teams participating. The weather was perfect for racing. Here's how our top finishers placed:  Freshmen boys, Jack Ellinger 15th; f reshmen girls, Lilly Fowler 7th;  JV boys, Connor Graves 9th;  JV girls, Maya Snyder 2nd, Sarah DiMeglio 6th, Claire Johnson 12th, Sarah Buckingham 13th; v arsity girls, Anna Spear 11th.

Our top time for the day was by Max Poster who clocked a 16:58 (5:40/mile pace). Around 5-10 seconds behind were Forrest Johnston, Iggy Miagkov and Mason Greenblatt. They placed in the 70th and 80th range for 300 runners. This illustrates how difficult and competitive the varsity boys race can get!

Our varsity girls team finished eighth out of 31 teams. Runners were Anna Spear, Victoria Stark, Leila Zavar, Sophie Brzezinski, Amelia Patton, Michelle Ascrizzi, Zoe DeTrani, Anna Krause-Steinrauf.  Our freshmen boys finished eighth out of 28 teams. Runners were Jack Ellinger, Luke Flaxman, Samuel Isaac, Joseph Massaro, Tommy Zavrel, Jackson Frankel, Denis O'Hara, William Kiser, Temur Zavar, Gabe Krieger, Parsa Habib, Max Barksdale.

rise against hunger
Join the mission to end hunger by 2030. Rise Against Hunger (formerly known as  Stop Hunger Now) will host a meal packaging event on  Sat, Nov 4, 8 am-4:30 pm at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in McLean. The goal is to package 300,000 meals. This will require more than 1000 volunteers spread over three 2.5 hour shifts. It also will also require that Rise Against Hunger McLean raise $87,000 ($.29 per meal) in advance of the event to pay for the ingredients for the meals. Click here to volunteer or donate. This is a great opportunity to earn community service hours and is fun and rewarding for the entire family.
