Gracious God, teach me to seek greatness not in power or status, but in humble service to others. May I follow Your Son's example, putting the needs of others before my own, and in doing so, find true fulfillment in Your Kingdom. Amen

PRINCIPAL'S LETTER

“God dwells in our midst in the blessed sacrament of the altar.”

St. Maximilian Kolbe

Dear Parents,

On October 14, student-led conferences will be held at school, and there will be no school on that day. The conferences will provide a chance for teachers, students, and parents to come together, discuss what the student has been learning and share goals for the coming semester.

During the student-led conferences, your child will lead the conversation. There will be an opportunity for the students to share what they are learning in their core content areas. This will include artifacts and work samples. Then, there will be a chance to discuss assessments including class tests, the MAP scores in grades 1-8, and DIBELS in K-2. The conference will culminate with a discussion about the individual goals for the child.

The goal of the conferences will be for students to be empowered to share their learning and for the family and teacher to come together to support the student as a team.

In grades PK-5, the parents will schedule the conference with the homeroom teacher. In grades 6-8, the parents will schedule the conference with the advisory teacher. If families have a specific concern, they are always welcome to schedule an individual conference with the teacher to discuss a specific concern with the teacher.

Parents will receive an email with the sign-up links for the conferences in a separate email on Monday.

As a reminder, the Board of Advisors will be posting the approved Board minutes summary from August on the school website. The approved minutes will be posted on Monday. We are thankful for these dedicated volunteers for their faith-filled guidance and support.

God Bless,

Erin Vu

Sr. Rene Noel's 8th Grade Class Hosting Mass

We had a wonderful Mass this morning. Thank you to Mrs. Lyman's fourth grade students who proclaimed the readings for us.

Mass on Thursday, October 3rd will be hosted by Sr. Rene Noel's eighth grade class. If your child's class will be hosting Mass, please consider volunteering to help with set-up before Mass or take-down after Mass.

All are welcome to attend!

Holy Family Middle School One Act Play is getting ready to hold auditions!

The Hallmarks of Horror, by Peter Boedel

One Act Play auditions for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be on Monday, September 30th and on Thursday, October 3rd, 4:00-5:30pm. Please choose only one day to audition. Students will go to the gym at the end of the day, and Mrs. Lyman will take them to the Wisdom building after carline.

Pick up will be in the Hope parking lot. Parents should wait at the Hope porch to pick up their child. We will be using SchoolPass to dismiss students.

Posters, sign-up sheets, and audition forms have been hung in the Hope & Wisdom buildings. Please fill out the form and bring it with you to your audition.

For those wanting to be on crew, I will need an audition form filled out and you will need to attend one of the auditions.

Again, students only need to come to one of the two audition dates. Be sure to bring an extra snack.

If call-backs are needed, parents will receive an email by the end of next week.

Parents of all who audition will receive an email, letting them know if their child made it or not, the weekend after auditions or after call-backs, if call-backs are needed.

One Act Play rehearsals will be in the pavilion on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30, starting Monday, October 7th.

The 6th-8th grade middle school dance is September 27th and is Luau themed! 6th grade will be hosting this dance. If you are a 6th grade parent and would like to help donate snacks or volunteer at the dance, please click on this link. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050448ABAE2EA2F49-51196272-luau.

To register your child for the dance, please click on this link (please register before September 27th). Dress guidelines and code of conduct are visible on the registration form Middle School Dance - September 27th (factsmgtadmin.com)

Annual Health Screenings

Holy Family will be performing the annual Student Health Screenings on Tuesday, October 15th and Wednesday October 16th for students in

Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, 5th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade boys, and any news students in 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th grades. The following screenings will be performed: Vision, Hearing, Acanthosis Nigricans, and Scoliosis. The screenings are performed by Holy Family Parent Volunteers who have obtained their screening certification by the State of Texas or who are licensed medical professionals.

Information Regarding Screenings:

·        Vision: Students who wear glasses or contacts must use them during the screenings.

·        Scoliosis: We are also required to conduct spinal screenings for our female students in 5th and 7th grades and males in 8th grade. This involves a visual screen of your child's spine. Students will be asked to remove their shirts. We recommend that girls wear a bathing suit or camisole under their clothing for privacy and boys may wear a sleeveless undershirt.

·        Acanthosis Nigricans screening, which focuses on the presence of physical markers that can be symptoms of youth on-set type 2 diabetes, will be conducted at the same time as the vision and hearing screenings for students in grades 1, 3, 5, and 7.

While the Health Committee organizes and works this event, additional volunteers are needed. Though some activities involve certification, for those who assist with vision screenings in the role of Observation/Notes and Kid Wrangler, the only requirements are to be EIM compliant and an enthusiastic volunteer willing to help. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up using the following link.

If you prefer that we do not screen your child, please let Mrs. Guzman know by the end of the school day on Wednesday, October 9th.  If we do not screen your child, you will be responsible for having your child screened by their physician and submit their screening results of Mrs. Guzman by October 25th.

If you have any questions about these state mandated health screenings, please contact Mrs. Guzman.

PSIA registration is live! Please complete the registration form by Monday, October 7. Parent Information Session on Tuesday, Oct 1 during Parent Education Night.

Please note the registration fee of $40. This will cover entrance fees to district and state (up to 3 events per child), and materials for training.
