Message from the Principal
Dear Families and Friends,

As noted in last week’s newsletter, now is the time to sign-up for Parent-Teacher Conferences, which will be held on October 16th and 17th. These are student-led conferences; therefore, your student is required to attend these conferences with you. By having your student in attendance, we can create a more open dialogue between the teacher, parent, and child and better understand the child’s strengths and difficulties and create a plan for success for the remainder of the year. Below in this newsletter you will find the specific links to sign-up for your student’s conference. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or the main office.

Also, as of Tuesday, our school has raised $9,883 for our Walk-A-Thon. We had several corporate sponsorships that came through last week, as well as some online donations. Remember that we have two weeks left before the day of Walk-A-Thon, which is October 11th. We appreciate all the contributions that have been made thus far, but we still have quite a bit to go before we reach our goal.

Sign-Up for Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday, October 16th and Thursday, October 17th from 3:00-7:00 p.m. We ask that you click on the links below to sign-up for conferences in advance. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s teacher or the main office. Mrs. Treminio will also be working with our families to set up conferences for which she is needed for translation.

Walk-A-Thon Volunteer Opportunities

As you know, the school Walk-A-Thon, “Footsteps with God,” is our biggest school fundraiser for the year. Over the next few weeks, we are asking our families, friends, and neighbors to not only prayerfully consider donating to this great cause, but we would also like you to consider volunteering your time to help us in the following capacities. If you would like to help count money for our Walk-A-Thon dress down days (9/25, 10/3, and 10/10) or during the week leading up to Walk-A-Thon (10/7-10/11). If you are interested in helping, please click here .

Box Tops for Education

In case you haven’t heard, the collection of Box Tops is now moving away from the traditional clipping of Box Tops to now scanning your receipt! The new and improved Box Tops mobile app uses technology to scan your store receipt to find participating products and then instantly adds the Box Tops to our school’s earnings online. Simply go to your app store and download the Box Tops for Education app. Then choose St. Michael School (3352 West 30 th Street, Indianapolis). It’s easy and saves you time! For more information, click here .
No After Care During Parent-Teacher Conferences

Please note that there will be no After Care for any student in Grades PK-8 on Wednesday, October 16th or Thursday, October 17th, due to Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please begin making alternative plans for these two nights. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 
8 th Grade Shadow Date at Cardinal Ritter High School

On October 15th from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., all St. Michael-St. Gabriel eighth grade students will shadow at Cardinal Ritter High School for half the day. Students will meet with some of the administrators and teachers, visit some of the classes, and also eat lunch at the high school. Students should be in school uniform for this day. 
Picture Retakes

If you are planning to have your student’s picture retaken, please bring back your original packet to school. All pictures will be retaken on Tuesday, October 1st. New order forms will be in the main office, if you wish to purchase a new packet. 
Hispanic Heritage Celebration

We want to thank all our families who were able to join us this past Monday for our Hispanic parent meeting. During the meeting we were able to discuss school communication, review helpful links on our website, and check to see that parents are receiving our newsletter. We also discussed our Hispanic Heritage Celebration, which will be held on Wednesday, October 23rd from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the school gym. If you would like to help decorate, serve or make food, or help with clean-up after the event, please contact Ms. Dora Villegas at 317-924-4333, ext. 424, and she would be happy to assist you with signing up. 
Safe and Sacred Training

We would like to remind all our families wishing to help with activities where our students are present that individuals must have completed the Safe and Sacred online training and completed a background check in order to volunteer or to serve as chaperones for a field trip. Please understand that until the certificate and background check are on file, we cannot, per the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, allow individuals to volunteer or work as employees of the school without this training and background check completed. If you completed your Safe and Sacred training, but did not complete the background check, simply log in to your account with your password and press the background check to complete the entire process. If you completed your training over a year ago or are unsure of your status, please log in to your Safe and Sacred account to see whether your training and background check are current. All Safe and Sacred certificates will have an expiration date on them, allowing your training to be valid for three years.
