School day hours will remain in place as is this school year, but starting in 2025-26 through its conclusion in 2028-29, there will no longer be a shortened school day each Monday for our teachers to participate in PD. Instead, students will have half-days off from school six times throughout each year for teachers to participate in extended PD, and the following school day times will be in place daily Monday through Friday:
- Morning preschool - 8:15-10:55 a.m.
- Afternoon preschool - 12:25-3:05 p.m.
- Elementary (K-5) - 8:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
- Middle school (6-8) - 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

While I am proud of the work we have been able to accomplish with our shortened Monday schedule for more than a decade, I know I speak for all involved when I say we are hopeful that this new schedule will benefit our families by providing more day-to-day consistency. The half-days will be spaced throughout the school year, and you will be able to see next year’s when the 2025-26 school year calendar is approved in January.
I am confident that this new PD model will still enable significant staff growth opportunities that will aid in aligning instruction with CCSD93’s vision for students set forth in its Portrait of a CCSD93 Graduate and its Strategic Plan. We will be working with our partners at the Carol Stream Park District to ensure that ActivKids Before- and After-Care offerings are adjusted accordingly.
Additionally, the new contract includes updated considerations related to staff meetings, securing substitute teachers, staff safety, student discipline, staff evaluation and sick leave. In accordance with the new contract, on average, licensed staff will receive salary increases of 4.27 percent in 2024-25 (retroactive to July 1, 2024), 3.80 percent in 2025-26, 3.84 percent in 2026-27, 3.85 percent in 2027-28, and 3.88 percent in 2028-29.
I am extremely grateful to the CSEA for their willingness to craft an agreement with the CCSD93 Board of Education that addresses student instruction, professional development, sick leave, and salary issues responsibly. I thank both the CSEA’s Bargaining Team and the CCSD93 Board of Education’s Bargaining Team for their commitment during the negotiation process. I am confident that this new contract will enable CCSD93 to meet our mission of maximizing the academic, social and emotional potential of each student while remaining an excellent place for teaching and learning.
