As the COVID-19 ‘Delta Variant’ continues to circle the globe, it is becoming increasingly clear that for certain use cases there will be a need for individuals to access verifiable digital proof they have been tested and/or vaccinated. Numerous countries, businesses, employers, travel and entertainment organizations, and others are asking for proof of testing or vaccination before entering or embarking. Our current challenge in the US and around the world is we don’t have a verifiable and interoperable way to check if you have been tested or vaccinated by a trusted testing or vaccination administrator.
The Vaccination Credentialing Initiative has worked collaboratively with more than 700 multi-sector stakeholders to develop the SMART Health Cards framework which allows for an individual to access their own verifiable health data including their testing and vaccination results. This framework has been voluntarily adopted by multiple states, countries, providers, national pharmacy chains, travel and entertainment venues, and others. In addition, numerous application operating systems have provided native support for the functionality including Apple Health with the release of iOS 15 and Samsung Pay. In fact, it’s estimated more than 100M Americans will have access to a SMART Health Card by Q3 2021.
Learn more about what SMART Health Cards are, how states, countries, and others are using them to reopen, and hear from those on the front lines of trying to implement the functionality across the world.
