MARY... OUR HOPE AND OUR HELP

September Title of Mary: Mother of Perpetual Health

Hello families,

My name is Holly Barrett-Sears, and I am the school counselor at St. Joe’s Crescent Springs. I am a Clinical Social Worker, with 12 years of experience, working in mental health with children and families. I grew up in Northern Kentucky, attended Holy Cross and earned my Master’s Degree at Northern Kentucky University. I will be at the

school on Wednesdays and Fridays weekly.

If you are interested in signing your child up for counseling, you can use the link below.

You can also send me an email if you have any questions at: counselor@sjscrescent.org. If you need assistance filling out the online forms, please contact me via email and I would be happy to set up a time to help.

The consent form can be found online by following this link

MORNING DROP OFF REMINDERS

  • Parents are welcome to enter the back parking lot via Nordman Drive for morning drop off. This will alleviate backup on Lorraine Avenue.
  • Students should be ready to exit the vehicle when you pull up to the cones.
  • If you need more time to get your child out of the vehicle (we all have tough mornings!), you are welcome to park your car in the upper lot and walk your child to the front circle. This will allow traffic to clear more quickly.
  • Parents should not enter the building unless they have business in the school office.

SJS spirit wear is here!! We’ve brought back some of your favorites as well as some brand new designs. All items are of very high quality from Arden and Gold.

The shop will be open for two weeks with items delivering week of September 29th. Be sure to check the box labeled “pickup” to have the items shipped free to school.

Thank you for supporting our school and showing your Cavalier spirit through the purchase of spirit wear items!!

Cavaliers Care 2025
Cavaliers Care is an outreach program that provides an opportunity for our students and families to get involved with various organizations to volunteer and build into our community. As Christ's followers we want to be the hands and feet of Jesus by serving our brothers and sisters in need. We are called to humble ourselves in service to glorify God's kingdom. We are called to give of our treasure, time and talents!  We certainly answered that call in the 2024-2025 school year. In addition to our weekly volunteering we facilitated two large events that were a huge success! See below to sign up for current volunteer opportunities.

MathCounts

MathCounts will be in Mrs. Kramer's Academic Support Room in our 5th grade hallway starting Thursday September 25 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

MathCounts was established in 1983 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the CNA Foundation. It is an enrichment, coaching, and competition program that promotes middle school mathematical achievement through grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory. If you have a natural aptitude for the subject, or are simply interested in a creative approach to problem-solving, then join us on Thursday evenings. Beyond weekly evening practices, intended Mathletes should anticipate optional take-home material, possible scrimmages against local schools throughout the year, regional competition at NKU in February 2026, and potential state competition in March 2026.  College scholarships are typically offered for top placements at the regional and state events. The program has minimal cost beyond your commitment of time, energy, and enthusiasm! We very much look forward to meeting any interested 6th through 8th graders.

Church Directory Update

We are continuing to work with the directory company to produce our Pictorial Directory. While we wish the directory would have been out sooner, we ask you to keep in mind that we added more photo days due to the great response from our families who wanted to be a part of the directory. Also, we wanted to include photos of our beautiful new sanctuary in the book. We completed the second edit and sent it to the company on August 29. We expect to receive the third draft with the corrections/changes in about 4 weeks. Additional edits may be necessary, but we hope not. The company advises that producing a bound book takes about two months from the time we approve the final edited copy. We are looking to have the directories ready for distribution around November. Thanks for your patience.

Message from Parish Secretary

If you do not have attendance cards (especially new families), please reach out to me. I can print some up for you and send them home with your student! Even if you contribute money electronically, you still need to put attendance cards in the collection basket to document your presence/participation at Mass.

Also, if you don't have cards yet or forget their card at home, you can just use a plain empty envelope or even just a scrap of paper with your family name on it and put it in the basket. Please put your family's last name, as well as a first name of head/co head of household. I am receiving slips of paper with last names only, but I sometimes have multiple families with the same last name. It will be VERY helpful to me if a first name is included to make sure that I mark participation for the correct family. If I can't figure it out, then I can't record it.

If you miss Masses, please don't put multiple weeks of cards in the collection basket. You will only get "credit" for one weekend- the one you attended.

Office Reminders

  • If you are dropping off an item your child has forgotten, please put the item on or in the blue bin by the front door. Your child’s name should be on the item. Please email the office and the child’s teacher to let them know that an item has been dropped off for the child. The office staff will retrieve the item and your child will pick it up from the office.

  • If you need to make an appointment for your child during the school day, please refrain from picking your child up after 1:30 p.m. The office is very busy at the end of the day, and reducing early pick ups at this time will allow our office staff to focus on making sure everything is ready for our school dismissal at 1:55 p.m.

  • If your student is going to be absent, please email their teacher and Mrs. Bilz in the office at bbilz@sjscrescent.org.

  • If there is a transportation change for dismissal, please email your students teacher and Mrs. Bilz in the office at bbilz@sjscrescent by 12:00 p.m.
