Greetings!

Welcome to our Practice Growth Insights’ 90th weekly issue, as we collectively strive to Elevate the Profession. Genuine thanks for your loyal readership, expert guidance and collaborative spirit. While some viewers joined our journey early, many are more recent. For all of you on the frontlines, our opportune narrative is intentional, timely and actionable.

As we finish 2021 and, with Big Rocks in Practice Growth jars, get well-positioned for 2022, it is integral to review proven techniques of Educating Well Monthly™. For some this will be a refresher and for others, an essential discovery. In both ways, these are dynamic catalysts in nurturing comorbidity-related referrals from current patients, physicians, senior living communities and local businesses, among many others. In reality, disciplined practice is an art, ideally with accelerating momentum.
“Practice what you know, and it will help to make clear
what now you do not know.”
– Rembrandt
At baseline, intuition and experience teach that a high percentage of patient flow results from friends and family or medical referrals. Further, industry surveys estimate that approximately 75% indicate these sources.

From this vantage point, our Comorbidity Education, Did You Know? highlighted:

“With whole-person care a public health policy imperative, comorbidity education raises awareness of how medical conditions relate to one another. While crucial for all healthcare specialists to lead in their area of expertise, the hearing health profession is uniquely positioned to do so.

“Further, as you are all too aware, by helping patients to hear better, you help them communicate more effectively with all healthcare providers. Please see these highlights from a noteworthy International Journal of Audiology article: ‘The Critical Role of Hearing in Health Literacy.’”

We pivoted to concepts of Subject Matter Expertise and social currency:

“As talented researchers methodically create evidence-based insights, much of which is publicly available, hearing care professionals who aspire to be whole-person care leaders must exhibit subject matter expertise as educational curators who nurture and mint comorbidity-related social currency.

“We should enthusiastically exchange educationally-targeted social currency with more of our patients, local healthcare providers, senior living community residents and many other quality of life advocates. Driven by a remarkable multiplier effect, we will systematically spread the word faster about why Better Hearing is Better Healthcare.”

We then explored how industry leaders Take Science Seriously, consistent with their mission(s):

S ocial Currency exchanged for patient and professional benefit
C ommunication Wellness which enhances human connection and quality of life
I nformation that is relevant, research-based and easily understood
E ducational Focus that delivers value beyond the hearing device
N urturing Approach to empowering patients and stimulating referrals
C ompetitive Advantages that trigger practice growth by design
E xcellence in Practice Culture which builds success on success

In fact, by Taking Science Seriously™, we can most effectively lead others to do so.

With these professional imperatives in mind Educate Well Monthly logically flows:

As emphasized, “Led by our Communication Wellness program as a strategic fulcrum and ‘Amplifying Your Influence’ with ‘Did You Know?’ subject matter expertise as a tactical lever, envision your array of high-impact opportunities to benefit from this perspective.
“As key opinion leaders spoke, we listened, with “Diagnose & Treat” model guiding creation of our popular “Educate Well Monthly™” program strategically illustrated here:
“While planning to ‘Educate Well Monthly™,’ you and your colleagues must care to share daily. Crucially, each clinical encounter presents valuable opportunities to provide relevant comorbidity information, answer questions and nurture healthy decisions by your patients, as well as others in their circle of influence who should benefit from your expertise.”
Did You Know? Next week, we will detail compelling methods to reputably display subject matter expertise that mints your social currency in practice, in community and online.
