Construction Update

December 5, 2024

Ongoing Activities

Wall being built on the south side of 9000 South prior to the sidewalk being installed.

Sidewalk work continues on the south side of 9000 South between 1075 West and Redwood Road.

Pedestrians should continue to use the north side of 9000 South.

Properties with more than one access will have one access closed while the other access is left open. Properties with only one access will be coordinated with the project team.

Nearby residents and business may have an increase in noise, dust, and vibration as work takes place.

Work continues on the center section of new bridge over the Jordan River including the roadway approaches to the bridge and completion of the bridge deck closure strips.

What is a Closure Strip?

When a bridge is built in sections, the joints of the bridge sections are poured separately. In our case, a 2' gap was left incomplete. Why is this done?

The completed bridge can change shape as weight from things like cars, additional barriers, etc. are added to it. If the shape changes too much, it may not align with the new section, creating an uneven surface. To account for this, the contractor leaves a gap to complete at a later time to provide Utah drivers with a straight, smooth driving surface.

Once the new section (in our case, the center section) has cured, measurements will be taken to verify everything lines up. If anything is out of alignment, weights may be added to line the sections up. This guarantees the bridge will be straight, level, smooth, and guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Signal work for 1510 West has been rescheduled.

Street light installation will start between 1300 West and Redwood Road in the coming days.
