Mikulski's Bourgogne Aligoté

Vines Planted in 1929

In 1929 the world witnessed the Wall Street Crash, the beginning of the great depression, and the first Academy Awards. In literature, "A Farewell to Arms" was published along with "All Quiet on the Western Front." Popeye would make his comic book debut. Aubrey Hepburn, Anne Frank, Martin Luther King Jr., Frank Gehry, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Bob Newhart began their lives in this world as well. And, in a small 1.5ha quiet vineyard on the lower part of the slope of Burgundy, the Aligoté vines used for this wine were planted.

Since 1992 Domaine François Mikulski has been the 'tenant farmer' of these vines. Though the grape is Aligoté and the vineyard is in the humble parts of the region, the vineyard work is meticulous with the thought "to make wines that represent the Domaine and the terroir." Francois' son-in-law, Thomas Boccon told us. It's not certified as such but, the process in the vineyard is organic. Extraction is "limited" and the wine sees aging on its lees in tank. The resulting wine is fantastic - precise and transparent. A testament to the land and the old vines.

2020 Francois Mikulski, Bourgogne Aligoté

"Vignes Plantée en 1929" - $32.96

A very aligoté nose speaks of green apple and citrus confit. The succulent, round and fleshy middle weight flavors offer a bitter lemon character on the delicious and refreshing finish that is acceptably vibrant. To enjoy immediately. 86BH
