Dear Artisans,
We just received the stunning new vintage of unquestionably Napa Valley's finest and most consistent icon: Chappellet's Signature Cabernet 2019. The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon has been Chappellet's flagship wine for more than four decades. It is a benchmark for the long-lived hillside wines of the Napa Valley; full of structure and aging potential, yet seductively forward in its concentrated varietal character. The dry, rocky soils of Pritchard Hill produce small, intensely flavorful grapes. Crop thinning allows for full, even ripening and elevates flavor complexity.
Reviewers write that this is "one of the finest values in all of Napa Valley" for every vintage. 2019 is no exception and continues its pedigree, garnering impressive scores all around. Even better, it comes from the 2019 vintage, which according to Antonio Galloni is FABULOUS:
"Based on early tastings from barrel, the 2019s are fabulous. The wines feel like they have a little more energy, power and depth than the 2018s. I imagine much of that has to do with smaller berries and higher skin-to-juice ratios. That extra kick of late heat seems to have given the wines just enough added concentration to fill out their frames. Acidities, though, are on the lower side, so the perception is of wines that are both rich and energetic. In some ways, 2019 reminds me of 2010, but not as extreme. It is a highly promising vintage." -Vinous Media's 2019 Harvest Report, 94-97 Points
More About Chappellet:
As one of the oldest family-owned wineries in Napa Valley, their production levels remain low to this day to ensure wines of the utmost quality, year after year. These wines sell out quickly every release as a result. Here is your notification to get ahead of the crowd!
The Chappellet family's romance with Pritchard Hill started more than four decades ago when they followed the advice of renowned winemaker André Tchelistcheff and settled on Pritchard Hill's rocky slopes, becoming the first winery to plant vineyards exclusively on high-elevation hillsides. For more than four decades, the Chappellet family has been crafting world-class wines from fruit cultivated on the steep, rocky slopes of Napa Valley's renowned Pritchard Hill.

As one of the first wineries to pioneer high-elevation hillside planting, and one of the few remaining great family-owned Napa Valley wineries, Chappellet Vineyard and Winery has influenced generations of vintners. Throughout its history, Chappellet has also established an enduring legacy as one of California's most acclaimed producers of Cabernet Sauvignon.

2019 Chappellet "Signature" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
95 Points - James Suckling:
"This is very complex, with blackcurrants, tobacco and cedar. Some sandalwood and terra-cotta, too. Medium-to full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that are creamy-textured and so long and pure. Attractive and complex. 77% cabernet sauvignon with petit verdot, malbec and merlot. So good now to drink, but will age beautifully. Drink or hold." (Sept 2021)
94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Always a smoking value that readers shouldn't miss, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature sports a dense purple color to go with beautiful cassis and blueberry-like fruits as well as bouquet garni, spice, and obvious, rocky mineral-like aromas and flavors. Rich and medium to full-bodied, with notable structure and good acidity, it's going to keep for two decades in cold cellars. It's a candidate for the best Napa Cabernet under $100. Best After 2022." (Mar 2022)
93 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Packs an alluring, winey feel, with a well of cassis and plum reduction laced with hints of cocoa, tobacco and singed cedar. Picks up a cast iron note on the finish, giving this just a bit of muscle as the fruit plays out. Best from 2023 through 2036." —J.M. (9/7/22)
93 Points - Robert Parker's WA:
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Malbec and 3% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps with open-knit notes of warm cassis and plum preserves, plus hints of tobacco leaf, bouquet garni and cedar chest. The medium to full-bodied palate is firm and crunchy with bags of bright fruit and a grainy texture, finishing lifted." - LPB (Nov 2021)
93 Points - Vinous:
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature is a terrific wine and a big overachiever in its price range. Black cherry, plum, mocha, lavender, spice, licorice and new leather lend tons of complexity to this bold, luscious Cabernet. This overt, upfront Cabernet offers plenty of near and medium-term appeal." - AG (Jan 2022)
- Varietal Composition: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon 12% Petit Verdot 8% Malbec, 3% Merlot
- Alcohol: 14.5% ABV

95 Points - Robert Parker's WA:
"The 2021 Chardonnay Calesa Vineyard, matured in 35% new French oak, features intense lemon jelly and nectarine aromas on the nose with wafts of chalk and beeswax. The medium-bodied palate is wonderfully satiny and concentrated, its ripe fruit complemented by energetic acidity and well-integrated oak spices, and it boasts a lengthy, mouth-coating finish with soaring citrus flavors. 1,210 cases were made." - Erin Brooks (June 15, 2023)
