Hi Artisans,

It's that time of year: Spring has brung and rosé season has begun! Take advantage of some of the lowest pricing in the State to celebrate the warm weather ahead.

In one of his last reviews of this region, Vinous Media's Josh Reynolds (who sadly passed away in March), "Rosés, at least the high-quality ones, can age and usually improve with a little patience, often to a great degree. More often than not, I find that well-made pink Sancerre, Côtes-de Provence and, especially, Bandol are at their best with at least a year, usually two, of age, gaining in aromatic complexity and depth."

More about Domaines Ott:
Domaines Ott was founded in 1912 by Marcel Ott, an agricultural engineer from Alsace who dreamed of establishing a great wine estate near the Mediterranean. Today, the winery is owned and managed by Champagne Louis Roederer and produces some of the world's most prestigious wines. Their wines are made at three distinctively different estates, one in the Bandol (Château Romassan) and two in the Côtes de Provence appellations: Clos Mireille and Château de Selle.

Château Romassan is located in the Bandol appellation. The Bandol appellation is known for its terraced landscapes built from the hard stone with vines planted on vast terraces with varying exposures. The sea air from the bay of Bandol compensates for the terroir's acidity and low rainfall. The winery is located on 148 acres at the foot of the village of Le Castellet.

Clos Mireille was acquired by the Ott family in 1935. It is an ancient terrain distinguished for its mix of shale and clay soils and the estate's broad seafront location. The microclimate and sea spray provide highly favorable conditions for both the rosé and white wines. Clos Mireille has a total of 420 acres with 116 planted to vineyards. The 18th-century country house and palm trees provide an unforgettable setting for this highly esteemed property..

2021 Domaines Ott Bandol Rosé "Romassan"

96 Points - Wine & Spirits:
“Château Romassan sits at the foot of the hilltop village Le Castellet, a few miles north of the Bay of Bandol. The Otts rely on mourvèdre for the bulk of their rosé (this one includes 30 percent cinsault and 15 percent grenache), and, though 2021 was another hot summer here, Romassan’s poor limestone and sandstone soils produced a deeply savory wine. This pale Bandol seems to have inhaled the local scrubland and seaside breezes, presenting that savory edge alongside husk cherry, grapefruit and pale melon flavors. Firm and versatile, it would pair nicely with anything from bouillabaisse to a Niçoise salad; or take it abroad alongside chicken yakitori.” (Jun 2022)

92 Points - Vinous:
“Shimmering, onion skin color. Intense red berry, citrus fruit and floral aromas, along with building suggestions of succulent herbs and dusty minerals. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, offering concentrated strawberry, orange pith and honeysuckle flavors that slowly deepen and take on a peachy nuance with aeration. Finishes impressively long and focused, with a repeating mineral note and a late hint of tarragon.” - Josh Raynolds (Jun 2022)

2021 Domaines Ott Cotes de Provence Rosé "Clos Mireille"

95 Points - Wine & Spirits:
"Clos Mireille’s 124 acres of vines are planted in schist and clay soils within view of the sea. This wine is reticent at first, though a magnetic hint of salted cherry paste suggests what’s to come. With a day of air, pithy grapefruit flavors and cinnamon spice come out to play, sliding into sea-salt and floral notes in the finish. Complex, intensely flavorful and still restrained, this has mouthwatering tannins that last without encumbering the wine."

94 Points - Vinous:
“Pale orange. Displays an array of intensely perfumed red berry and citrus fruit aromas. Along with suggestion of honeysuckle, nectarine and fennel. Juicy and seamless in texture, giving deep pit fruit and raspberry flavors and a bracing touch of orange pith. Echoes the floral notes on a wonderfully long, smooth finish that leaves a hint of honey behind.” - Josh Raynolds (Jun 2022)

90 Points - Vinous:
"Bright, peach skin color. Fresh pit fruit and red berry scents are complemented by building floral and orange pith nuances. Smooth and open knit, showing good breadth and depth to its juicy strawberry, tangerine and white peach flavors. The floral note recurs on the nicely persistent finish, which features a subtle hint of fennel."
