It finishes pretty saline and spicy in character, leaving edgy tannins to mingle with a residual bump of acidity that maintains a wonderfully fresh sensation as tart cranberry notes fade. That note blows off, however, and the wine returns to dried cherry with a medicinal or herbal twist. There's a lot going on. The wine needs more time in bottle to address the fine, chalky tannins. Andrea Cortonesi’s reputation for Brunello continues to grow, but the Rosso remains under the radar. This traditionally made wine has a rich, spicy nose with plenty of tomato puree and black cherry. The palate is firm and structured, with bags of tannins, showing good acidity and chew. It should continue to develop well over the next four to six years. Bold, gutsy, crowdpleasing and thoroughly Tuscan, this is a wine for the famous cucina povera – dishes with beans and oil, and fat-spiked meats.

It’s a very charming wine to enjoy over the next 2-3 years.
