New sounds for the Roland V-Drums!
970West Studio users have always been able to track drums using audio from the Roland V-Drums, but now the V-Drums can also trigger new drum libraries like the Producer Kits in Logic Pro, and Abbey Road 60s Drummer by Native Instruments. Even better, individual drum tracks like kick, snare, and hats can be adjusted and processed separately, which allows for more flexibility during mixing.
This new workflow is made possible by connecting the brain of the V-Drums to the DAW via USB cable, which sends MIDI information instead of audio. That MIDI info tells the drum module which drum to trigger, at what velocity to trigger it, and other parameters. No actual sounds are recorded, so you are free to switch kits later if you change your mind!
Short tutorial videos outlining this workflow live on the desktop of both workstations here at the studio, but if you would like a deeper dive into this or any other audio production topic, consider attending an Audio Production Workshop at 970West!
