Domaine Charles Audoin "Le Rozier" Fixin 2020
Last 3 cases of the vintage!
"Any lover of Pinot or damn good wine should buy all they can fit. This Burg is BURSTING out of the bottle right now. My pour exploded from my glass with the most incredible energy I've ever experienced at this price range. You are mercilessly attacked with seemingly endless bursting layers of kaleidoscopic red fruit notes. Even better, this finishes with the most vibrant mouth-watering acidity that will have you FIENDING like an addict."
—James Tran, Case-Worthy
"If you’ve ever wondered what minerality in red Burgundy tastes like, here is a daringly mineral wine that’s like stepping to the edge of a precipice, then looking over the edge."
—James Suckling, 97 Points

Hey Artisans,
It's bittersweet announcing this last call for this stunning Burgundy from Domaine Charles Audoin: their 2020 "Le Rozier" Fixin. Fixin (pronounced “Fissin”) is situated in the Côte de Nuits region between Dijon and Gevrey-Chambertin. It is known for producing wines of similar richness and the appellation is full of well-reputed Premier Crus that offer some very fine Pinot Noir. This is super high-quality at a "cheap" price for the area.
Domaine Charles Audoin is an estate that is largely responsible for putting Marsannay on the map. Initially considered a less-favorable terroir and not even given its own AOC until 1987, winemakers like Charles Audoin have shown that this is an appellation that is well worthy of recognition. Representing the fourth and fifth generations of vignerons, Charles and his son Cyril, who currently helms the estate, had overseen an explosion in growth and quality since the 1970s – including some exceptional vineyards in nearby Fixin. Entirely organic since the 2018 vintage, this wine comes from vines planted in the 1960s on a site just to the south of the Marsannay commune of Couchey. Made from 25% whole cluster and aged 12 months in barrels, 20% new, then six months in tanks before bottling. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
While the Wine Advocate's William Kelley hasn't reviewed this wine yet, here's what he had to say last year about this winery:
"Readers will by now be familiar with my admiration for this Marsannay reference point, and Cyril Audoin's superb 2019 portfolio did nothing to change my opinion. As I've written before, these satiny and elegant wines, intensely flavorful but gently extracted, can stand just as proudly among the grander villages and premiers crus of the Côte de Nuits as they do among the local competition. The fact that this domaine is located in Marsannay simply means better value for the consumer."
And the 2020 vintage? Delish! Vinous Media gave it 93 points and said the reds "lean towards black and blue fruit, with conspicuous opulence."
We're down to the last 3 cases of this vintage so don't miss this delicious wine! You know Red Burgundy finds are rarer with each passing day.
Sante,
—James Tran

2020 Domaine Charles Audoin
"Le Rozier" Fixin
Cotes de Nuits, Burgundy
97 Points - James Suckling
"If you’ve ever wondered what minerality in red Burgundy tastes like, here is a daringly mineral wine that’s like stepping to the edge of a precipice, then looking over the edge. So much energy on the tightly focused and highly structured palate, the crushed-stone finish dragging you along with it. Very saline right at the end. Drink or hold." (9/29/22)
92 Points - Allen Meadow's BurgHound:
"An exceptionally cool and restrained nose grudgingly offers up its array of dark berries, earth and humus. The delicious, intense and intensely mineral-driven middle weight flavors possess both good richness and precision while displaying outstanding length for a villages-level Fixin. One to also consider." (Jan 2022)

Domaine Michel Gros Nuits St. Georges 2015
93 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Offering a mix of graphite, cherry, raspberry and smoky, spicy flavors, this red is complex and structured. A little disjointed now, with all the components in the right places, so give this some time. Fine length. Best from 2023 through 2045."—B.S. (July 2018)

Domaine Louis Boillot et Fils Pommard 1er Cru Les Croix Noires 2013
92 Points - Vinous:
"...aromas of raspberry, graphite and blood orange. Dense, sappy and intense, conveying a strong mineral element as well as a delicate violet quality to its red and darker berry flavors. Boasts terrific inner-mouth tension and a light touch. This precise, fine-grained wine boasts uncanny sensuality considering that it's carrying barely 12% alcohol... Drink between 2023-2033." (90-92 pts)
91 Points - Burghound:
"A layered and appealingly perfumed nose is composed of red cherry, raspberry liqueur and rose petal aromas that display an undertone of warm earth. There is good volume and a sleek mouth feel to the delicious and energetic middle weight flavors that possess a slightly tough but not really drying finish. Drink starting 2019." (88-91 pts)

Domaine Pierre Gelin Chambertin 'Clos de Beze' Grand Cru 2013
94 Points - Wine Spectator:
"This is laced with violet, black currant and blackberry flavors, accented by earth and tobacco notes. The tannins are firm, intensified by the vibrant acidity. Shows a streak of purity and pedigree that makes this complex, long and appealing. Best from 2020 through 2035. 66 cases imported." - BS (May 31, 2016)
92 Points - Burghound:
"This is also a wine of contrasts as the well-layered nose combines brooding and somber fruit aromas with exuberantly spicy and floral elements. There is good punch to the attractively rich and moderately concentrated flavors that exude a subtle bead of minerality on the naturally sweet and well-balanced finale. This is very much crafted in the classic Gelin style with its emphasis on finesse and refinement which is in no small part due to the fine-grained tannins." (Jan 2016)

Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits St. Georges "Aux Boudots" 1er Cru 2016
94 Points - Wine Spectator:
"A lush, velvety red, this sports black cherry, blackberry, plum, earth and subtle dark chocolate flavors. Firm, yet harmonious and succulent, ending with a long, refined finish. Best from 2022 through 2040." — B.S. (Jan. 9, 2019)
93-91 Points - Burghound:
"Full red-ruby. Pure, subtly perfumed aromas of blackberry, spices and licorice. Dense but youthfully linear, showing lovely finesse of texture to its tight-grained flavors of dark fruits, spices and saline minerality lifted by violet. With its compact kernel of fruit, this is neither sweet nor easygoing today, but its precision and definition call to mind a 2014, or even a 2010. Finishes classically dry and firmly tannic, with very persistent flavors of black fruits, spices and bitter chocolate. This very promising wine will need time in bottle to harmonize and expand." - Stephen Tanzer (Jan 2018)
