Dear Artisans,

Pio Cesare has been producing benchmark, world-class wines for 144 years (since 1881) through five generations in its ancient cellars in the center of the town of Alba. It's easy to see why they are one of most respected legends of all Piedmont:

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Pio Cesare is what I call a “lighthouse” winery. Steadfast and standing tall among the rest, it floods the landscape with inspiration and light for a slew of smaller, boutique wineries looking to find their way. Among the most historic brands in Alba, Pio Cesare has worked hard to promote Barolo and the territory of the Langhe across the globe. Their tireless efforts have been instrumental in creating a unified Barolo identity."

When you take Pio Cesare's supremely elegant, silky, classy style and combine it with 2020—one of the most graceful, poised, well-balanced and fresh vintages for Barolo—you get breathtaking liquid velvet:

We're offering the lowest prices in the country on this quintessential classic. It's drinkable now and age-worthy for another two decades. This makes it one of the smartest classics to buy for your cellar!

Cheers and all my best,

James Tran

2020 Pio Cesare Barolo Pio

97 Points - James Suckling:

"Very primary fruit with beautiful aromas of peaches, strawberries, berries and flowers. It’s medium- to full-bodied, with bitter citrus, cedar, chocolate and coffee bean character. Tight at the end. From five villages, primarily Serralunga, Monforte, La Morra, Grinzane Cavour, and Novello. Needs two or three years to open and will age for a very long time."

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:

"This wine represents a blend of Nebbiolo from Serralunga d’Alba (Ornato, La Serra and Briccolina), Grinzane Cavour (Gustava and Garretti), La Morra (Roncaglie), Novello (Ravera) and, more recently, Monforte d'Alba (Mosconi). The Pio Cesare 2020 Barolo has an approachable style for sure, with classic Nebbiolo tones of berry fruit, orange peel and licorice. It reveals an integrated and silky personality and tannins that feel very inviting for near and medium-term drinking." - Monica Larner (1/25)

93+ Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"A youthful ripe ruby color, the 2020 Barolo Pio is fresh and inviting, with perfumed aromas of rose petals, spiced strawberries, and dusty earth. Elegant and juicy, it’s easy-drinking, with fine tannins and juicy freshness within a medium-bodied frame, and it has good length for an entry Barolo. It captures all the graceful elements of this vintage and has a tremendous amount of charm as well as a complete feel. Enjoy it now or over the next 10 years. It would be a great by-the-glass offering if the price is right." - May 2024, Audrey Frick

93 Points - Wine Spectator:

"A mix of cherry, strawberry, rose, tar and underbrush aromas and flavors highlight this elegant, solidly built red. Supple in texture until dusty tannins emerge on the finish. Shows fine balance overall, with a super long finish. Best from 2027 through 2043." -BS (8/24)

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast:

"Earthy and herbaceous, with hints of fruit leaves and a luscious aroma reminiscent of strawberry and red currant jam. Freshly ground spices add depth, including sweet cinnamon and savory thyme. On the palate, encounter a vintage charm with dried cherries, wild herbs, and elegant tannins, evoking the timeless allure of an old-school classic that is delicious now but will refine with age." — Jeff Porter
