Winemaker Ross Cobb is the PRINCE of Pinot Noir:

1998 - Williams Selyem's viticulturist and enologist

2000 - studied in Burgundy with Francois Leclerc

2000 - Flowers' head winemaker for 5 vintages

2009 - Hirsch Vineyard's head winemaker for 6 vintages. He lived ON the vineyard.

In 2001, Ross started the family brand Cobb Wines with his parents. He utilized years of experience with cool-climate Pinot Noir to craft wines from the estate vineyard Coastlands that maintain a true sense of place, allowing the site to speak through his winemaking.

Dear Artisans,

This is unquestionably one of the finest Coastal Pinot Noirs we've ever offered in the 15 years we've traded wine.

There's so much to say, which would take too long to read, so I'll let my bullet points above, and the critics below do the talking.

We were fortunate to get 1 case, out of only 275 made, to offer to you today!

Any Pinot lover should buy all they can fit!

Cheers,

—James Tran

2021 Cobb "Coastlands Vineyard - Old Firs Block" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

98 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"Similar but a touch more ruby in color, the 2021 Pinot Noir Coastlands Vineyard Old Firs Block is also layered and spicy, with aromas of pine needles, fresh cherries, sweet herbs, and pretty anise. Medium-bodied, it’s long on the palate, with a sanguine feel, mouthwatering brightness, and a clean finish. Give it another few years and drink over the following 15 years." - Audrey Frick (June 2024)

97+ Points - Vinous:

"The 2021 Pinot Noir Coastlands Old Firs emerges from a block planted with Martini and Wadenswil clones planted in 1989. Exotic and compelling, with captivating inner perfume and stunning balance, the 2021 is unforgettable. Orange peel, kirsch, spice, rose petal, mint, and crushed rocks gradually emerge from the glass.  The 40% stems are beautifully woven into the wine's fabric. Bright acids and beams of tannin are holding the wine back, but make no mistake about it, the 2021 is magnificent." - Antonio Galloni (January 2024)

96+ Points - Robert Parker's WA:

"The 2021 Pinot Noir Coastlands Vineyard Old Firs Block comes from a single block of vines planted in 1989 on marine sedimentary soils at 1,150 feet in altitude. Made with 40% whole clusters, it's bursting with pomegranate, red cherry and botanical undertones, plus slowly unfurling nuances of cinnamon, mixed tea leaves and lavender. The medium-bodied palate is powerful, its concentrated fruit supported by firm, chalky tannins and focused, driving acidity. It's very expressive and detailed! 275 cases were made." - Erin Brooks (December 2023)

96 Points - Decanter:

"The dramatic site on Cobb's Coastlands property is named for an old-growth Douglas fir sitting at the vineyard's edge. The vineyards have used no till, organic farming since 1989, and the wine has an uncanny, evergreen, ethereal character. Aromas show loads of pine needles, tart blood orange zest and a kiss of frankincense with undeniable sea air character. The palate is gorgeous, and the floral notes, both violets and rose petals, are redolent. A gravelly minerality frames the tart cranberry relish and wild alpine blueberries. There is that seaspray again alongside mint and pine sap, which carry the wine's bright fruits to an even more brilliant finish. Drinking window: 2024 - 2038" - Clive Pursehouse (January 2024)

2022 Cobb Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Not yet rated - 2021 reviews are below:

94 Points - Robert Parker's WA:

The 2021 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast, made with 40% whole clusters, has ringing tones of cranberry, rhubarb, tobacco leaves and botanical undertones. The light-bodied palate features concentrated, nuanced red fruit supported by a frame of chalky tannins and vibrant acidity, and it has a long, spicy finish.

94 Points - Decanter:

A blend of several of Ross' single vineyards and a clonal mix of Calera, Swann, Martini and Pommard. It's planted at 100-300m—ethereal aromas of violets, saline minerality and mint. The palate offers willowy, lithe, gorgeous red berries and richer candied blue fruits. The unmistakable elegance of earthen minerals, sea air salinity and pine bough carry this to its finish as if blown on the breezes of the Pacific.

94 Points - The Wine Independent:

The 2021 Cobb Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir has a pale ruby-purple color. After a swirl or two, it springs from the glass with gorgeous notions of fresh red cherries, wild strawberries, and lilacs, followed by hints of forest floor, garrigue, and damp soil. The medium-bodied palate is bright, crunchy, and intense, with bags of youthful, yet vibrant, red berry flavors and fine-grained tannins, finishing long and lifted. It was fermented with 40% whole clusters and aged in 30% new French oak for 17 months.

93 Points - Vinous:

The 2021 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a new wine, and what a wine it is! The purity of the fruit is just striking. Ross Cobb blended five sites and several clones to craft this exquisite, vibrant Pinot Noir. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, orange peel and spice all race across the palate. The 2021 is flat-out gorgeous. That's all there is to it.
