"This was just a fantastic three days of fabulous cars, fun activities for families and car fans, and we at the Chattanooga Motorcar Festival are privileged to have the support of not only Millennium Bank, but all the supporters who have come on board to make this fifth Festival a success," said Festival founder Byron DeFoor. "I am grateful to everyone who brought their beautiful cars to show and share with everyone who came to the event. We are proud to direct all our proceeds to the NeuroScience Innovation Foundation. Chattanooga has a big heart. Thank you all for your support."
We asked several of the event participants to give us their thoughts about this year's Festival:
Erich Smith, Woodstock, Georgia, Jaguar Club curator: “The Chattanooga Motorcar Festival every year gains momentum and presence in the concours world. This is such a great city that is so welcoming to car owners, but also it’s a party. We have a lot of fun here with this class. We basically have 30 Jaguars that represent 90 years of production showing every facet of that marque. The people here are genuinely interested in cars. It’s a totally different vibe than many other concours fields I’ve been on. It’s a great event and I’m glad to be a part of it.”
Jochen Mass, Germany, race-car driver, celebrity: "I think every event held in towns like this benefits from the charm of the city where it is held, and I think this is a wonderful place to have this sort of event. I’ve never been to Chattanooga and [my experience] has been very positive, and I really love the place. The quality of the cars is really amazing. I love it. It’s very honest.”
Ken Gross, Hamilton, Virginia, concours director: “Well, it feels more crowded and more appreciated than last year. We’ve got a lot of enthusiastic people wandering around and the turnout of cars is terrific. This looks like a banner year for the Chattanooga Motorcar Festival. A concours d’elegance is all about elegance, and we had some of the most elegant cars of the 1930s on hand. We had several Rolls-Royces, Bentleys and Duesenbergs. We had Ferraris and more than 30 vintage Jaguars. And we never had Sports Customs before. These are hand-built, homemade cars from the early 1950s. It’s a great event.”
Bob Varsha, Atlanta, Georgia - TV commentator, celebrity, M.C.: “This is my second year here. Byron DeFoor and his entire staff are looking for ways to improve the event every year. This year is slightly different, but even better, despite the various challenges of the hurricanes and such. The cars are great, the people are great, the weather is great. And it’s got to be on any race or car fan’s bucket list.”
Lyn St. James, Phoenix, Arizona, race-car driver, celebrity: “I love it when I get invited here because it’s one event that I really look forward to because it is relaxed, has beautiful cars, wonderful people. I love the vibe of the city. And Byron DeFoor, the founder of this event, allows us to just come and enjoy the people and the cars. It’s great for the families. There’s activities for kids, which I rarely see at other concours. And then there’s the variety of cars. On Friday there are a bunch of different cars. And on Saturday’s there’s another different bunch of cars. And then they have the rally. And on Sunday it’s the Concours. It is a wonderful event that benefits the NeuroScience Innovation Foundation. And the excellent weather helps.”
David Hobbs, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, race-car driver, Grand Marshal: “Absolutely amazing. It’s just such a lovely collection of cars and the great thing about the Chattanooga Motorcar Festival is that it’s all so compact. It’s downtown, and at the same time it’s so friendly, free and easy. I’ve been to many concours that are spread out. This one is so compact. It’s absolutely great, great for families, it’s very reasonably priced and there’s lots of good restaurants in West Village.”
Wayne Carini, Portland, Connecticut, TV personality, car expert, celebrity: “I’ve been to the Chattanooga Motorcar Festival the last four years. I keep coming back because of the people and the event itself. It does such great work for charity, and Byron DeFoor and everyone on the staff does a wonderful job. You always go back to a place where you feel welcome and I feel very welcome here."
