This Week at BCM
The Beat Goes on with Bayou's Best
Robin Lacy & DeZydeco at Music@BCM
Thursday, Aug.8, 7 p.m.
The good times will roll August 8 when Robin Lacey & DeZydeco bring their mix of zydeco, blues, traditional country and roots sounds to the Music@BCM stage at Behringer-Crawford Museum.

With their unique instrumentation, which includes accordion, saxophone and rubboard, the six-piece group takes inspiration from the roots of New Orleans and Louisiana music and culture, adding original songwriting and classics to the mix.

Zydeco music stems from the French Creole of southwest Louisiana, blending blues and R&B. The term is a sound-alike to the Creole idiom for hard times. Its brisk tempos, accordion and washboard rhythms will pull you to your feet to dance those blues away!

Music@BCM concerts are held in Behringer-Crawford Museum’s outdoor amphitheater at 1600 Montague Road – Devou Park, Covington KY 41011. Doors open at 6 p.m. with refreshments available for sale and the concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Concert-goers are invited to bring folding chairs or blankets for seating. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will move indoors.

Admission is $5 for adults and free for children age 12 and under, who can participate in a new Kids’ Music Club offering free children’s activities during the concert. Reservations are requested for the Kids’ Club: call 491-4003. Concert-goers who ride their bikes to Music@BCM are admitted free, courtesy of the Devou Good Project. Parking is free. Adult beverages are available for purchase. Attendees can also purchase food by Colonial Cottage of Erlanger, KY, supporting local community organizations.

The Music@BCM 2019 series concludes on August 15 with Ramona Blaine and The Company. Guests are encouraged to check the museum’s website, www.bcmuseum.org, or call 859-491-4003 to confirm the schedule.

Save the Dates!
silentART Preview: Saturday, Aug. 31
freshART Gala: Saturday, Sept. 14

fresh ART is quickly approaching! Each September, an elite group of artists gather to create art en plein air for the annual fresh ART gala and auction at Behringer-Crawford Museum to support the museum’s youth education programs.
This is the 27th year for the event, which will take place at 6 p.m., Saturday, September 14.
Selected artists will spend September 13 and/or 14 in Covington’s Devou Park creating original works to be auctioned live at the gala. A portion of the sale price of each auctioned piece will go to the artist; the balance will be donated to the museum, benefiting area children. Artwork will be judged by a panel of experts, with $1000 in cash prizes awarded to the top three entries by the William & Patricia Applegarth Fund.

Get your bid in early! A silent ART reception will take place on Aug. 31 from 5-7 p.m., prior to the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra performance in Devou Park. Also on display will be artwork created by local high schools students in the first annual fresh ART Connie O’Donnell Student Invitational. The silent ART auction and student exhibit will continue through the fresh ART auction on September 14.
