March 2025

Dear Franklin Cummings Tech Community:

With longer, balmy days upon us, we are feeling Spring and the excitement that comes with another graduating class ready to head off into good-paying and meaningful careers.

With our full attention on our students, the FC Tech faculty, staff, and administration are also preparing to adapt to changes at the federal level that affect some of the funding on which we rely. Like the 4,000 colleges and universities in this nation, we are facing these challenges head-on by staying true to our values, following the guidance of our counsel, listening to ideas from faculty and staff, and applying innovative solutions.

Since 1908, we’ve persevered. We intend to continue serving our students at the highest level possible in the face of changes we predicted and those that we didn’t see coming.

Despite the uncertainty coming from Washington, DC, there is a lot of positive momentum at FC Tech. Our new campus in Roxbury is quickly taking shape to become a place of learning, a beacon of education in the community, and a cornerstone of a revitalized Nubian Square. Our co-op and apprentice program is expanding – we are now up to more than 35 employer partners working with 80 students in work-based learning programs. Our enrollment is growing, and the support services we provide our students to help them focus on learning and succeed in life are making an impact.

I would like to extend my appreciation to the incredible FC Tech faculty and staff who are making all of this progress and opportunity for our students and the college possible. I am also grateful to our supporters in the public, private, and philanthropic sectors for all that they do to make our mission possible.

Sincerely,

Aisha Francis, PhD

A Beacon of Educational Opportunity

When the Dellbrook/Oneway construction team wrapped our new campus building in the winter months, the construction site would glow in the evening - standing as a literal beacon of the educational opportunities coming to Nubian Square with the completion of our new campus.

The building wrap has since come down to resume spring construction, but we were excited to capture this construction update and milestone in our historic move to Roxbury. We are looking forward to our construction being completed in the fall of 2025, bringing us closer to the heart of the city and making our affordable educational programming more accessible to students across the region.

Renewable Energy Technology class visits clean energy farm

Students in the Franklin Cummings Tech Renewable Energy Technology program visited photovoltaic and wind turbine farms in Kingston, MA to learn from solar panel and wind turbine technicians about how FC Tech's hands-on educational programming applies to real world careers.

The Wind Turbine Farm in Kingston powers over 4,300 homes a year, and the modules used on the Solar Ground Mount were made in the United States. Both require skilled, experienced technicians to ensure Massachusetts meets its clean energy goals. Thank you to No Fossil Fuels and Associated Energy Developers for hosting this captivating field trip.

Alumni Spotlight: "Never underestimate the power of an education"

Kevin Bouché ('18, AS Electrical Technology) went to college to further his career as an electrician. After spending time at community college, he found Franklin Cummings Tech and earned his degree in electrical technology.

After graduation, Kevin joined National Grid as an electrical substation designer, helping modernize the region's power grid through a highly engaging, high-demand career.

Kevin is one of about a dozen FC Tech alumni working and thriving in exciting roles at National Grid, who has been a long-time career partner of this college.

Kevin's educational journey shows the importance of a higher education ecosystem offering public and private institutions, as well as the benefits of industry partnerships between colleges and businesses that connect graduates to jobs in Massachusetts' growing clean tech economies.
