Winter Shelter Next Week: A Beautiful Opportunity to “Be With”
Yesterday afternoon’s surprise snowstorm was a gentle reminder that winter is not quite finished with us yet. Even as daffodils begin to push through the soil and hint at spring, winter still lingers among us. In many ways, that coexistence captures exactly why our Winter Shelter ministry matters.
Next week, our church has the privilege of hosting neighbors who need a warm place to sleep, a hot meal, and the simple dignity of companionship. Winter Shelter is not only about providing a bed or serving food—though those things are essential. It is also an opportunity for us to practice the sacred work of being with one another.
At the heart of the Christian story is the theology of incarnation: God choosing to be with us. In Jesus, God entered our world, shared our humanity, and dwelled among us. When we show up for Winter Shelter—sitting at tables, pouring coffee, sharing conversation, or simply offering a welcoming presence—we participate in that same incarnational way of love.
It is holy work. It transforms us all. And it is a beautiful thing.
As we prepare to welcome our neighbors, we still have several volunteer needs:
If you have been considering helping, this is a wonderful moment to step in. Whether you can prepare a meal, greet neighbors, stay overnight, or help with breakfast, your presence makes a real difference.
As the snow falls and the daffodils bloom, may we remember that this season invites us to make room—room in our church buildings, room at our tables, and room in our hearts.
If you can fill one of these volunteer gaps, please sign up today. Your presence will help make this week of shelter possible.
And if you cannot volunteer, please pray for our neighbors. Pray for a world where we truly seek and serve Christ in all persons.

“The Theology and Practice of Peacebuilding”
This Sunday, March 15 & 22, 9:00 a.m. (Parish Hall)
Led by parishioner Dr. John Keiss, who holds a PhD in ethics and theology and is a professor at Loyola University, this two-week study will move from theory to practice. This Sunday, we will examine theological perspectives on peace, from Augustine and Aquinas to Martin Luther King, Jr. On March 22, we will explore real-world examples of churches engaged in peacebuilding, including the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Acholi Religious Leaders Peace Initiative in Northern Uganda. These classes invite us to move beyond longing for peace and toward understanding—and practicing—what it means to be people of peace in a complex world.
Children's Choir This Sunday, 10:00 a.m. Members of our children's choir, KC and Madelein, will sing the offertory anthem this Sunday. Click here for a preview.

Participants will have space to reflect, experiment, and begin shaping a personal (or family) Rule of Life for this season. This series is designed for all ages. Join us at the table.
