Hi Parkway People --
I hope you've had a good week! I just wanted to send a quick reminder and invitation to be a part of two great things at Parkway this Sunday.
First, at the 10.30 service, Parkway will present Bibles to all of our 2nd graders. It's a sign that they are old enough to begin taking the work of faith, reading scripture, and asking questions into their own hands. It's the start of a lifelong truth — that the life of faith is always connected into community, but ultimately no one can do the work of faith for us.
Two quick details on 2nd grade Bibles:
-
Several of our families of 2nd graders do not want any pictures of their kids making their way onto social media. This is a reasonable request and we intend to keep our promises to them. When we present Bibles on Sunday, I will ask that no pictures be taken — there will be chances for families to take pictures at a photo backdrop before/after the service.
-
As a part of encouraging not just our 2nd graders, but the entire Parkway community in the lifelong practice of reading Scripture, we will be rolling at a new cycle of reading through the gospels one chapter at a time called Common. I'm so excited to introduce this rhythm of reading scripture that works for both new and experienced readers of scripture. It will be one more layer of shared practice and faith work across the Parkway community.
Second, after the 10.30 service everyone is invited to Parkway's monthly Table Talk — which is basically just going to lunch after church. It's an easy way to meet new people at Parkway, make connections, build community, and get lunch taken care of. There's no sign-up or RSVP — just meet at Live Oak Grill on Dairy Ashford in Sugar Land after the 10.30 service. Hope to see you there!
It's going to be a great Sunday celebrating a big step in the faith life of our 2nd graders, starting a new way of sharing in the work of reading scripture together, and continuing the work of building community at lunch afterwards.
Have a great end to your work week, the start of your weekend, and I'm looking forward to Sunday!
Justin
