Shakeology of the Month
CHOCOLATE BANANA CHEESECAKE
It tastes like dessert, but acts like a multivitamin!

Why Shakeology?
We all struggle with food prep and getting all the nutrients we need in life every day. Shakeology solves both of those problems.  It literally fills the gaps in our daily nutrition. We still advocate eating clean, colorful, whole foods for your daily meals. Shakeology is a multivitamin in a meal.

It is quick, convenient and filled with vitamins, minerals, superfoods, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and protein. It is NOT a diet shake or a quick fix. It is whole food nutrition.

Need Shakeology at home for YOUR family? FREE shaker cup with purchase!

TOMATO LENTIL SOUP WITH
HERBS AND POTATO
This soup feels light but is filled with satisfying lentils and potatoes that really have some staying power to keep you full.  My recipes makes a lot, so plan on freezing portions.

Ingredients:
-32 oz. canned whole tomatoes
-32 oz. vegetable stock, unsalted
-4 cups of water
-4 small white potatoes
-1lbs. dry brown lentils, washed
-3 cloves fresh garlic
-1 small onion, chopped
-2 TBSP olive oil
-6 springs fresh sage, oregano and thyme
-1 bay leaf
-salt and pepper to taste
Method:
Get a large stock pot with a lid out.  Rinse and sort the dried lentils to remove any debris.  Chop the onion, garlic and wash the herbs.  Add oil to the crockpot and set to medium heat.  Add onion and cook for 4 minutes then add garlic.  While the onion is cooking, peel and chop potatoes.  Add to rinsed lentils.  Open stock container and tomatoes.  After the garlic has cooked for two minutes, dump the tomatoes and stir quickly.  Add the broth, stir and then add lentils, potatoes, herbs, bay leaf and a small amount of salt and lots of black pepper.  Your soup will look like picture 2 at this time.  Cook until it looks like picture 3 over low heat, covered.  Check the soup and taste for salt and pepper, stir and re-taste.  When satisfied, serve one half cups of soup per person. It's always better the next day too!

ENDING A WEIGHT LOSS ROLLERCOASTER & A THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF BEAUTY VIP

Brandy LaPine's weight has been a rollercoaster for the past 30 years.
It started in her early 20s, holding on to post-pregnancy weight.  She never got a handle on it.  Over the years she tried Weight Watchers, walking with friends and using small plates for portion control, but she always gained the weight back.  She couldn't maintain anything she tried.

She even tried a Boot Camp program, but it was not a good fit.  She did not enjoy morning workouts or doing cardio.  She wanted to find something she liked.

At 209 pounds, Brandy was the heaviest she had even been.  She did not want to go anywhere and avoided clothes shopping.  She did not feel

worthy of buying new clothes.  She was desperate.  She decided to try another Boot Camp, but this one was different.  It was Bay Athletic Club's Body Beauty, a strength training camp for women in a positive, supportive setting.  Brandy fell in love with lifting weights.  She liked working out in the evening two days per week.  And the fact that her best friend Robyn Hart joined her made it even more fun.

As Brandy's fitness became more consistent she found it was easier to focus on her food choices.  She followed a nutrition program created by a registered dietician called the 2B Mindset.  It is not a diet, it is a way of eating for life, just what she wanted.  As a home health care nurse, she was in the car most of the day and that took a toll on her own health.  Now she is in the routine of packing healthy meals, snacks and water.

In less than a year, with the help of Body Beauty, better nutrition and support from friends and family, Brandy has lost and kept off 30 pounds.  Her husband asked her why she has so many pairs of workout pants and Brandy just smiled.  She feels worthy of shopping again.  She is proud of her body and feels strong from the inside and out.

PS--we love Brandy's story and we love Body Beauty Boot Camp!  It is our longest running Boot Camp, with the first one kicking off in November 2012.  We have had a Body Beauty camp nearly every month since.  In November we are introducing the BEAUTY VIP special.  This allows any BAC member who has done at least five Body Beauty camps to pay just $30 for camp.  We know our special programs bring better results and more fun to your fitness.  We want to make them more accessible to our members who love them!

TIPS FROM NUTRITION EDUCATOR AMANDA FREELAND
Organic vs. Non-Organic. What is the big deal really?
Well, a few things. First of all, if you are eating produce throughout the day, pat yourself on the back. Produce provides vitamins, micronutrients, fiber and water. We need all of that and lots of it throughout our day. Fruits give us natural energy and veggies will keep us full and satisfied. The more whole fresh produce we eat the better off our health will be in the long run and the more disease we will keep at bay.

Secondly, organic and local produce are always a better bet for getting more nutrients vs. produce that's been more traditionally mass produced.
Mass produced fruits and vegetables often have pesticides that are absorbed into them and even washing our produce doesn't always keep us from ingesting it. Over time, these chemicals can contribute to the growth of disease.

A good plan of action is to choose the produce that you eat most often and decide to buy those organic. For example, if you eat a banana everyday and you eat blueberries 4x a week, maybe those are the two fruits that you start out purchasing organic. Try to budget to include one new fruit or vegetable each month so the increase to your budget doesn't seem so drastic, until most of the produce you eat on a regular basis is organic.

To help, here is a list of the fruits and vegetables that are considered the 'dirty dozen' in the nutrition world. These 12 foods have the highest level of pesticide residue so when you are able to, purchase them organic.  Strawberries, s pinach, n ectarines, a pples, g rapes, p eaches, c herries, p ears, t omatoes, c elery, p otatoes and s weet bell peppers.

TAKE ACTION OVER YOUR NUTRITION:
