This Sunday . . .
A Boy and a Bento Box
This Sunday we will have a dialogical sermon.
Jesus said, "The people are hungry; you feed them" is familiar to all of us, so let's discuss it together. Of course I have ideas, but I would like to hear yours. Come prepared with a response, planned or spontaneous, but brief. Stay where you are seated and I will come to you, then share with the congregation what you have offered. Bring your ideas, bring your imagination and creativity to the word of God.
The sermon title this week is: A Boy and a Bento Box. A bento is a single-portion  take-out  or home-packed meal common in  Japanese cuisine . We tend to say bento box, representing the box holding a single portion. Traditionally bento holds rice, fish or meat, with vegetables.
Dutch artist Johnny Beerens painted a mural with five loaves and two fish, all neatly arranged in a silo-sized bento box, as a mural on a tall building in Bresken in the Netherlands. I love the irony of 5 loaves of bread and 2 large fish, a meal that could easily feed 4 or 5 people, painted so large that the size of the mural represents the extravagance of feeding 5000 plus leftovers.
Jesus said, "The people are hungry; you feed them." "We can't!" the disciples replied. Technically they did not provide the food, Jesus did, but the disciples were the agents of God's extravagant provisions. Let's begin there.
See you this Sunday.

Ear Candy & Inspiration for a Sunday (or any) Morning

Though they've never marketed themselves as a Christian band, the brothers Garza, collectively known as Los Lonely Boys , have never shied away from singing about their faith. According to JoJo Garza, "Faith plays the biggest role in everything we do. It's the most important thing to Los Lonely Boys, to our families. Everything we see, touch, smell and feel comes from God."

Here's JoJo, with his brothers, on their 2005 Grammy Award winner, "Heaven."

If you have a musical selection you would like to have featured in this space, we'd love  to hear from you! Please send the title (and artist, if it's important to you that we find a  specific version of the music) to Bob Addleman.

Working with the children during Wednesday Club, Youth Group, Sunday Morning classes for all ages, and Nursery Attendant are just some of the many opportunities in the Northmont Community. Please pray for the team as we move forward.
