The Dance of the Blessed Spirits is an instrumental interlude in Christophe Willibald Gluck's groundbreaking opera Orpheus and Eurydice which premiered in 1762 in Vienna before Empress Maria Theresa.

This idyllic interlude was originally a ballet set in the Elysian Fields of mythological Greece during Orpheus' tragically unsuccessful journey to rescue his beloved Eurydice from Hades. Today in the time of COVID, this excerpt resonates with me, because music brings peace and beauty in trying times.

We have asked Laura Calzolari, a wonderful friend and longtime patron of the Dranoff, to curate this Breath of Music.

This performance was one of two recitals to celebrate Carol Wincenc's 50th anniversary as an international concert artist. This concert took place on February 23, 2020 at the Metropolitan Opera, at Merkin Concert Hall in New York. The third recital, scheduled for April, was canceled because of COVID-19.
