Campus ministry is such a powerful opportunity for life change. Yet our time to pour into students while they are here is short. During these years, we are called to prayerfully study the Scriptures with them, pray for them, and help ensure they have the tools they need to stand firm—stepping past the attacks of the Enemy and walking into all that God is calling them to be.
In Exodus 17, we are given a picture of what this kind of spiritual support looks like:
9 Moses said to Joshua, “Select some men for us and go fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the hilltop with God’s staff in my hand.”
10 Joshua did as Moses had told him and fought against Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 While Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, but whenever he put his hand down, Amalek prevailed.
12 When Moses’s hands grew heavy, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat down on it. Then Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other, so that his hands remained steady until the sun went down.
13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his army with the sword.
While we are not fighting a physical battle with swords and spears, a very real spiritual battle is happening all around us. Students today face constant pressure, distraction, and discouragement. That is why I am so deeply thankful for your partnership with me and with the ministry of CCF.
Together, we are standing on the hilltop—lifting our arms in prayer for these young men and women. Together, we are working to equip them not only to choose each day to take up their cross and follow Jesus, but also to become prayer warriors themselves for those who will come after them.
As we continue this work, I want to invite you to take a few specific steps with us:
- First, please be praying daily for our students—that they would grow in faith, stand firm in truth, and walk closely with Christ.
- Second, consider writing notes of encouragement to these young men and women. A simple word of affirmation can make a lasting impact. (If you’d like the names of specific students to make your notes more personal, just let me know!)
- Third, continue to financially support the ministry and share the good work God is doing through CCF with others, so that we can continue faithfully in the work He has laid before us.
Thank you for standing on the hilltop with us. Your prayers, encouragement, and generosity truly make a difference in the lives of students at the University of Illinois.
As we look ahead to a new semester, we’re expectant for how God will continue to meet students right where they are and draw them to Himself.
