Progress on our 107th home has been quick and efficient, thanks to numerous volunteers over the last few weeks. On Saturday, September 17, dozens of volunteers came out to raise the walls of the home - one of the best days on a Habitat build site! Later that week, volunteers from Wells Fargo, one of the corporate sponsors of the build, helped to install the OSB on the home. Generous supporters like Wells Fargo truly make it possible for us to partner families in need to build decent, affordable housing in Denton County.
Tomorrow, our volunteers will be taking on the heavy task of moving the roof trusses. There are a couple more slots available if you'd like to sign up to volunteer and help lighten the work load! More details here.

On Saturday, September 24, volunteers from Flower Mound United Methodist Church joined us to paint the exterior of a local homeowner's home, through our ongoing "A Brush with Kindness" program!
This program addresses a critical and often overlooked need: After years of deferred maintenance, homes fall into disrepair. This can lead to a downward spiral: code citations, loss of homeowner insurance, and ultimately mortgage foreclosure. These effects hurt not just individual homeowners, but also entire neighborhoods.
Under this program model, homeowners are eligible to participate in A Brush with Kindness based on factors such as the condition of the home, income, and a demonstration of challenging circumstances, such as disability, illness or age that prevent them from doing the work themselves. Qualifying homeowners contribute sweat equity by working side by side with volunteers to complete the work if they are able.
Do you know someone who could benefit from this program? Learn more about A Brush with Kindness and how we are revitalizing local neighborhoods here.

The Santamaria family paid off their Habitat home!
|
Congratulations to the Santamaria family, our 44th homeowners, for paying off their Habitat home! As some of you may remember, Nicolas and Florencia built their home alongside numerous volunteers at 521 Skinner Street in Denton back in 2003. The home was built as part of Habitat's Homeownership program and was dedicated to them in June of that year, meaning this hardworking family paid off their mortgage in less than 20 years! We are continually amazed by and honored to work with families like this one. This family has accomplished something truly incredible, thanks to YOUR support!

Community Spotlight: CN Custom Cabinets and More
|
CN Custom Cabinets and More has been a partner with Habitat Denton for many years now, donating or giving great discounts on brand new cabinets for our homes. But did you know that the Nunez family is also Habitat's 85th Homeowner? They built their Habitat home in 2012 in Denton and are a beautiful picture of what happens when you own your own home and pay an affordable mortgage - financial stability, independence, and even the flexibility to start your own business. Thank you, CN Custom Cabinets and More!

A huge thank you to all who gave to Habitat for Humanity of Denton County on North Texas Giving Day! Thanks to your support, we raised $19,310. This generosity will help impact the future of affordable housing in Denton.
Additionally, we want to give a shout-out to Champions Rotary for putting on an amazing sold out First Annual Golf Tournament last Friday! All the proceeds from this event are going toward a new home build in Justin, TX. Thank you to all the sponsors and participants for your support and a fun day!
To cap off an exciting week, First Christian Church hosted a "Concert for a Cause" on Saturday, with some of the finest singers in Denton singing music from the Great American Songbook. We auctioned off some fabulous homemade desserts and shared the mission of Habitat with our community. Thank you, First Christian Church, for hosting this!

We are raising funds to develop 8 acres of vacant land in Southeast Denton and establish a new "Habitat Village" housing development on the property. As many as 35 new affordable homes will be built alongside local families in need via this development. This project involves developing the infrastructure of this neighborhood, including the streets, sidewalks, utilities, proper drainage requirements, and everything else needed to support a neighborhood of 35 homes.
