The 10th Annual Working Waterfront Festival drew large crowds with two days of beautiful weather to enjoy the music and food and the New Bedford waterfront. Nearly 3,000 visitors came aboard Ernestina for a tour. We had a wonderful turnout of volunteers that made this possible. THANK YOU!
Harold Burnham stopped at Massachusetts Maritime Academy on the return trip from Boothbay Shipyard to New Bedford in 2009
Award winning Harold Burnham is under contract with DCR to assess the work needed for a complete rehabilitation of Ernestina ex Effie M. Morrissey and to produce a cost estimate for that work. Harold supervised the 2008-09 rebuild of the forward section of the ship at Boothbay Harbor Shipyard in Maine.
Two years ago Leon Poindexter prepared a report for DCR and the Ernestina Commission. Leon's assessment and cost estimate was for rehabilitation "sufficient to regain Coast Guard certification" but his contract did not include replacing the aft deck and deck beams.
The report Harold is working on is for the complete restoration of the ship and is an important step in insuring a future for Ernestina that matches SEMA's vision. A big THANK YOU to DCR for taking this important step. SEMA is looking forward to working with the Ernestina Commission to insure a sailing, educating Ernestina for future generations.
