The Thanksgivings

Translated By Harriet Maxwell Converse

Translated from an Iroquois prayer

We who are here present thank the Great Spirit that we are here

         to praise Him.

We thank Him that He has created men and women, and ordered

that these beings shall always be living to multiply the earth.

We thank Him for making the earth and giving these beings its products

         to live on.

We thank Him for the water that comes out of the earth and runs

         for our lands.

We thank Him for all the animals on the earth.

We thank Him for certain timbers that grow and have fluids coming

         from them for us all.

We thank Him for the branches of the trees that grow shadows

         for our shelter.

We thank Him for the beings that come from the west, the thunder

and lightning that water the earth.

We thank Him for the light which we call our oldest brother, the sun

         that works for our good.

We thank Him for all the fruits that grow on the trees and vines.

We thank Him for his goodness in making the forests, and thank

         all its trees.

We thank Him for the darkness that gives us rest, and for the kind Being

of the darkness that gives us light, the moon.

We thank Him for the bright spots in the skies that give us signs,

         the stars.

We give Him thanks for our supporters, who had charge of our harvests.

We give thanks that the voice of the Great Spirit can still be heard

         through the words of Ga-ne-o-di-o.

We thank the Great Spirit that we have the privilege of this pleasant

         occasion.

We give thanks for the persons who can sing the Great Spirit's music,

and hope they will be privileged to continue in his faith.

We thank the Great Spirit for all the persons who perform the ceremonies

on this occasion.

FRIENDSHIP CENTER SOCK COLLECTION

December 1st is the final day of collecting socks for the outreach workers at the Friendship Service Center in New Britain.

There is a blue bin in the narthex to place your donations. For the past three years we have exceeded 200 pairs of socks for the homeless. So far this year we have collected 188! Let's try to hit our goal this weekend! Thank you.

BAKED GOODS NEEDED

On December 7th C.C.P. is hosting an In the Spirit Coffeehouse to get everyone in the holiday spirit. We are looking for donations of delicious baked goods to put out for refreshments. Baked Goods can be fresh made or store bought. If you can provide a baked good please either contact the Church Office or sign-up during coffee hour this Sunday, December 1st using the sheet in Kelsey Hall.

CHRISTMAS WISH TREE

Gift tags were placed on the tree in the Narthex for the children in the caseload of our Covenant to Care for Children Social Worker, Ashley. A few tags remain so make sure to pick yours up!!

We must remind you that gifts (including gift cards) must not exceed $50.00.

2024 Christmas Poinsettias

We are pleased to announce that we will once again be offering Christmas Poinsettias!

Participants will have the opportunity to donate Poinsettias in honor or remembrance of someone special in their lives. The plants will then be given to those members that need to be remembered by our Church during this season. The beautiful plants are purchased through Karabin Farms in Southington CT. They are delivered to the church and displayed in the sanctuary during the Christmas week services, with the names of the donors and those they are honoring or remembering listed in the Order of Service. There will be one line for each donated plant. The plants are $13.00 each.

Also, this year, participants will have the option to make a suggested donation of $13.00 to C.C.P. in honor, or remembrance, of someone special with the names of the donors and those they are honoring or remembering listed in the Order of Service, but with no plants ordered.

Lastly, we will again take orders for plants that may be wanted for personal use. You will be asked to pick the plants up at the church on Saturday, December 21st. These plants will not be noted in the Order of Service.

A portion of the proceeds of this year’s Poinsettia Sale will go towards the Save Our Steeple Fund.

Please click on form below to download & print. Complete and return it to the Church Office with payment by Sunday, December 15th. No order will be accepted without payment. You may attach multiple forms together if needed. All plants must be pre-ordered. Please circle Honor or Memory in each notation.

Checks (made out to C.C. P.) or Cash will be accepted. Payment and completed forms can be returned to:
